The earliest of the peonies are starting to bloom. These are the species peonies. Paeonia Tenufolia... Fern leaved peony: Paoenia obavata, Japanese Woodland peony, one of the only peonies to grow in shade (now that's MY kind of peony!):

Thanks all! Yes @Odif the fern leaf peony is just getting to blooming size. I think it will look better and better as it matures.

Thanks Jewell. I have discovered that if I pick them while still in bud, they last a long time in the vase.
