Any idea what this is?

    A friend in Ontario sent me this picture asking if I knew what it is, been way out here on the west coast I have no idea. Does anyone have a suggestion that I can work on?

    These kind of things grow around here on hazels and lime trees. They most likely are tiny wasps or mites that lay their eggs and the leaf puffs out like in your picture. The affliction is called a gall

    Odif has got it spot on. We have around 70 different gall wasps on oak trees here in Britain.
