I recently noticed a nest with what appears to be wren eggs in my window box! It had beautiful and very full flowers but despite care and water they have died. I’m not sure why they died (possibly aphids) but I have stopped watering. The nest is no longer covered from the elements. Will the Adults abandon the nest if I replant around the nest to provide cover for them and selfishly for myself!?
Even if the plant material is dead and dry,, the wrens will usually be fine ! They rarely build in greenery that I have seen ! Dead and dry works better for them ! They build nests in my garage every year !
The wrens won’t be there for long. As soon as the chicks are fledged the parents move them out and about to keep them safe. I’d let them be. I am always amazed how quickly the chicks come and go.
Where is that closer look, Paige? BTW--what kind of flowering plants did you have growing in your window box?
