This summer is beginning to rival the summer of 1980...except that there have been no high temps in the 110-115 deg range like back then. But no rain for my yard in more than 3 months and this month does not look likely to have any either.

And no, contrary to what some not from this area might believe, we are not in the desert, prickly pear cactus does not grow in every yard, I have lived in this area for all but about 8 of my 73 years and this is not normal for us.:(

We had a very hot and dry summer. Spring was more frosty than winter. Last year summer was hot and very wet. The three years before that we had virtually no summer. So I for one am happy to have a summer, even though I struggled with watering. I have been making lots of firewood recently because I suspect that we may have lots of snow and cold this winter.

We still have summer temps hovering around 95 every day, maybe 3/4ths of an inch of rain in the last 60 days and none in the forecast. My part of Dallas County (not the whole county or any other part of the state) has been put in the Extreme Drought category by the National Weather Service. That is one special designation that is not something you want to have. Not looking forward to our next water bill, not because of watering the gardens, I stopped doing that a few weeks ago and told some of my plants good bye....but we have to water around the house foundation to prevent various parts of the house from cracking. Black Clay is pretty unforgiving when it is bone dry.

Tonight Largely dry at first this evening but cloud will quickly thicken as outbreaks of heavy rain push in from the southwest tonight. Rain will turn more showery later in the night.

Tomorrow: It will be largely cloudy and wet with showery bursts of rain at times throughout the day, some of these will be heavy and perhaps locally thundery. Breezy.

Clouding over on Monday with outbreaks of rain pushing in from the west, becoming heavy during the afternoon. Another wet and unsettled day on Tuesday with showery outbreaks of rain, some heavy and thundery. Wednesday will then be a dry and settled day with sunny periods but it will feel much cooler with a northerly breeze.

    15C. At the moment.

@toni I am sorry about your severe drought conditions. That must be awful. I world hate to have to watch my plants slowly die. I think my skin would curl up and flake away too!

After an extremely wet spring and summer, we are in a mini drought now. Very mini compared to @toni 's situation. We have a swimming pool & we've been having to fish the frogs out of it multiple times a day (if we don't, the chlorine will kill them) . I think they are seeking out our pool because it is so dry everywhere else.

The water department called my wife about the exponential spike in our agricultural meter water bill. They last one was 200usd so she thinks it will be 1000. I did not tell her there is an algorythm that looks for leaks. I just told her I bet 600. This is an interesting way for a husband to find out what his wife planned to purchase!

In what way? Pulling on my wifes leg or the agricultural water meter bill?
