Today absolutely nada but tomorrow ???????

 

Those guys really did do a lot there. You must be well chuffed with all the progress. And uh, did they enjoy the food?

Went into the bees to give them a bit of supplement food as it has been raining here for a few days and they have begun eating their winter honey. I harvested some toms, beans and courgettes. The paths were soppy, so the beds would have been worse--no real work then.

 

Went to the garden in the rain today to pick up veg for the Food Bank. Several folks showed up just to donate. It made my day.
Said hello to the bees and they seem to be doing alright.

 

Need to water the peppers. Wife is in the hospital (doing better though) so my evenings are with her. The plants look sad...

 

I wish her a speedy exit and recovery! There is no place like home.

 

Hope the wife is better and home soon.

Right now am gazing at the garden and assessing what is most urgent to do. Probably going to have a few more cups of tea whilst deciding and will have to think on it, at least, overnight. Don't like to rush these things and make a wrong move!

 

I added compost to a raised bed where the broccoli will be planted soon. Everything is so dry I am holding off doing any planting of lettuces, sugar peas, and any other fall vegetable until we get rain. Just hope I can plant before June!

@Sjoerd. Your bees are very lucky and so is the Food Bank....I wanted bees before we found this home.
I am healing well..all the bending is actually good for my back and neck. This past wknd, finally got some mustard and collard greens and cabbage starts put in the ground before it rained like mad..nothing like free water. I also combined 2 gardens into one long space..very please with it. Almost thought it was animal/mammal/amphibian proof, until a toad showed me that he could escape no matter what I called myself doing.... Made a toad house to keep them in and rescued a toad from my pool this morn. You would think that I have a full blown farm from my descriptions!!!

 

Wife is home (and happy to be)! Pepper plants are looking great, probably due to the frog strangling rain on Saturday. Ripening pods are numerous and mostly uneaten by garden pests.

 

Catdaddy, so happy to hear your dear wife is back home and soon will have some peppers to enjoy!

 

@toni I sure do hope your area will get a slice of that rain.

Yesterday I harvested Swiss chard, kale, leeks tomatoes and carrots. I made two homemade chicken pot pies with the veggies. I will be hosting the potluck for our community garden and wanted to experiment with making a chicken pot pie and freezing it before baking it. See if I could make several ahead of time & just bake them the night of the dinner.

In other news, a first frost hit the community garden, killing the tomatoes, dahlias & cannas. Time to dig them up.

The asparagus is still green as ever but I'd like to hack them back to the ground & get that bed put to bed for the winter.
