    Thirty odd years ago I wanted a Japanese lantern, but those I'd seen in garden centres at the time looked naff to me, they were also very expensive. So I thought I could do better myself.
    The construction technique is the same as building sandcastles. They have a core of fine mix concrete and an outer skin of sand and cement mortar with yellow cement dye added to make them look less like concrete.
