    The days are getting longer and it’s time to get some starts going on a couple of my plants. The variegated philodendrons got some snipping for one more plant for my meditation shack. They all get moved out there once the freezing weather Is no longer a concern.

    I love the color of the velvet plant, but it has a pretty weedy disposition. Will get the first pot of cuttings started and other at a later date. Then it will be time to pass the parent plant along.

    Then I was doing my Costco shopping and unfortunately they had a collection of ficus that had been bonsai-ed. A sucker to give it a try thinking I have the perfect place for it I brought one home. First I had to stop at a local nursery to see if I could find a compatible ground cover.

    What do you think? It will either be a bust or a success, or maybe a little of both. It is hard getting plants this time of year since they are coming out of green houses to the rough conditions of a new environment.

    Since the peperomia had to have soil adjusted (lots of major root decapitation) to fit into the ficus pot it got a temporary plastic wrap. The ficus is just going to have to adjust without babying it. Since my major problems with ficus is “getting too big” I’m not concerned about it. Should be fun to see how they partner.

    I haven’t seen a velvet plant in any nursery or stores for decades.

    I ordered some starts off of either Etsy or EBay over a year ago as a Christmas present to myself. I also ordered rosary vine because of the same story and nostalgia. Recently I did find the local nursery did have the rosary vines. Am on the lookout for a very small leaf Hoya I once had. It got too big so I passed it along. Wish I kept a cutting.

    Thanks for the compliment :heart::):heart:

    @Jewell - I had my Velvet Plant about 30 years ago. Really haven't seen one since either. They're definitely not common

    This is true! I haven't seen purple velvet plants or rosary beads in some time! I guess plants go in and out of style.

    Velvet plants are as easy to find here as Dodo birds. Same with Strawberry begnoias. Used to have those but haven't seen on in ages and ages.

    Guess what? I saw both today in Lowe’s. Shocked! I was thinking of getting the strawberry begonia. They also had begonias, the big multicolored leafed house plants.
