For those unaware, I'm into vinyl jukeboxes, I've two in our Japanese Tea-House at the bottom of the garden. Don't get much use in the winter apart from "turning them over" a few times at the week-end. As with many things, "Use is the best form of preventative maintenance." I've also two identical jukebox wall boxes on a shelf in our front room which play mp3s via an adapter, some third generation iPods, through my vintage hifi. I've been adding a few of my collection of "foregotten girl groups of the sixties" to this one. "A vision in chrome and glass" As the boxes will only play the same number of tracks of the vinyl records for which they were orginally designed which is 160, I had to delete some on the iPod to get them in. I also had to print off the new title cards, you can do this on pdf proformer and download them from an enthusiasts' website. As I have two boxes, a spare title card magazine and three iPod,s my choices are increased to 480. The advantage is that you don't have to have any "B sides" for those who can remember them. Of course, like many I've a USB stick in the side of the TV in this room with a few thousand mp3s on it, "but it's not the same." Anyway, Here's three favourites. Margaret Mandolph, she would have been about thirteen or fourteen when she recorded this. Clydie King Both, sadly are now dead. The Palisades (also recorded under "The Cookies") A Carole King song, (she sang back-up). She gets everywhere doesn't she?
Great memories of friends, fries, coke and a quarter for the table top jutebox. It was a grubby little local cafe in a small town. The songs we listened to were about 5 years newer though And am not sure the staff and owners appreciated teens showing up.
This is one or my favourites, I uploaded it to YouTube ten years ago. There's lots of uploads of the same song with many thousands of hits, but only mine featuring an actual jukebox. Maybe that's why surprisingly it's got over seven thousand hits. "It's a full on" recording with a full orchestra.
Loved the Drifters,, the Platters, 4 Seasons, Sam Cooke, Johnny Mathis and many others ! Odd but none of the girl groups made a splash with me ! Not sure of the years,,,its been a long time !
