There's a conversation at the beginning of the film "Jewel of the Nile," between Kathleen Turner and Michael Douglas. They are lazing on his yacht in a harbour. She starts it. "Don't forget, we've got that reception tonight." "That's not 'til next Thursday." "This is next Thursday!" It's like being retired, time really doesn't matter.
Hubby has 22 months until retirement and he is really looking forward to it. He has worked from home for the last few years so him being home full time then will not be anything for us to have to adjust to.
He has his home office that will quickly become his 'Ham Shack'...his fixing things room...watching TV room, etc. I have my room and we have working doors on each. And he learned 14 years when he started working from home that if my door is closed, "he shall not enter" And thankfully he has no interest in doing gardening so when I am outside he doesn't come out to pester me.
You can't beat being retired. My wife humours me with my hobbies and "boys toys." I'm golfing three days a week if the weather is fine. I have the small front room, we share the big lounge that leads on to the garden, though she mostly uses it. There's Sony Android TVs in both rooms, with Virgin cable, we mostly like different TV programmes, but we don't shut doors. There's plenty of room for visitors in that room, with two Stressless recliners and a sofa. I have my own Stressless recliner in the front room I spend quite a bit of time on the garden and play the two jukeboxes we have in the tea-house, mostly in the summer. No room for them in the house. But this front room is packed with my toys. The TV has a Virgin Tivo box under it, a Humax HDR, a DVD/CD player and a VHS recorder/player. I'm into "film noir" and still have a lot of classic films on tape that are hard to find on DVD. Then there's my vintage Leak Tuner/amp and a turntable and cassette recorder/player. Half the top cupboards are filled with vinyl albums, CDs, DVDs and sheet music books. I've two vintage jukebox wall boxes on which I can select mp3s on iPods to play through the Leak. Most are YouTube downloads. I've also a lot of mp3s on the Humax and a separate hard drive. I can play the sound of anything on this side of the room through the Leak. Then there's my Yamaha Tyros 5 leccy piano with its big subwoofer on the floor. (I don't play it loud, nor my tenor sax, I hide that behind the TV so my wife doesn't hit it with the vacuum cleaner). I subscribe to a message board dedicated to Yamaha keyboards and we record stuff we play and share the recordings with each other. We upload them to "Box" and share the links, I've probably a couple of hundred of my own on Box I really can't ask for anything more. Lately I've been collecting hardly known Motown and similar groups from the sixties. An example follows. I probably only use 10% of the Tyros's facilities. I actually don't play it that often. "Too man hobies, so litttle time." I've had several keyboards over the years, this one I bought in 2018. Here's a short video.
I have a clock that doesn't work. maybe I will take it apart and fix it for my friend. this would be pretty funny. and rearrange the numbers...
Hmmmm, I have a wall clock in the barn that doesn't work. Bet I could make a great retirement present for someone by removing the hands. Thanks for the idea, Carolyn!
