My husband has long worried about the number of houseplants that inhabit our home. If I am traveling he has no idea on how to care for them. To alleviate those worries I have mainly succulents (no water) or plants you can drown. One of the plants I have explored this last year is hoyas. Until YouTube videos I had no idea of so many interesting varieties. I’ve had the easy growing small Bella off and on through the years. It blooms pretty much all the time.

With a new little plant shop in town I was able to expand my collection over this last year. I am learning about their individual personalities as they settle in to a new environment. Many I purchased as cuttings since that is the least expensive way to purchase (sometimes even free).

Here are the names for those interested

5 - Hoya Bella my old favorite because of easy of growing, constant blooms and compact habit
4 - Hoya curtsii - love the subtle variegation and small size of these leaves. Perfect for my small house.
3 - Hoya retusa - stick Hoya. I couldn’t be happier. Goes with my stick cactus. Light and airy for window covers.
2 - Hoya carnosa ‘crimson princess’ - I’ve avoided the larger leafed Hoyas because they get so big but the beautiful and striking variegation on this young plant drew my eye. Being of a weak nature I just had to have it.
1 - Hoya carnosa compacta ‘Hindu Indian Rope’ - repeat the above statement only substitute “interesting form” for “striking variegation”.

Yes, some already have starts from the original/mother plants. This summer I will probably set a bunch of plants out for “Free” after posting in the neighborhood website. Gave new homes to over fifty plants last summer and my sweet hubby didn’t believe so many plants had gone. The house was still full of greenery. Anyone else out there with a plant addiction? What’s your weakness?

Thanks Inlandlife, I was awed by the contrast in the variation plus the red stem. It was wonderful to help out a new business also. I wish her well during these difficult times for small businesses.

I went to a local Garden Center yesterday to see if they had in any new veggie plants for planting out and their shelves were basically bare. NOTHING.......

Walmart had some lovely plants. Got cauliflower starts and an heirloom tomato plant plus a few seeds.
