Hi guys, new here to GardenStew! I recently started growing basil and encountered a problem that I can't identify. It seems that my lower growth is encouraging spotting, drying up at the tips and then it moves up the leaves. They are currently in a grow tent with these settings: Temp: 22-28C humidity: 45-50 Light schedule: 18-6 Median: Miracle gro Potting Mix 0.14 - 0.14 - 0.14 Nutrients: None Thanks for the help!
18 hours of light? seems like alot. my indoor basil plants also suffer from a similar problem ( sweet basil has some leaf issues, but cinnamon basil seems 99% fine), I guess it's from inconsistent watering, but I also assume that it's Normal that not every leaf is perfect. as long as most of the plant looks healthy it's probably nothing to worry about.
The temperatures listed above are the tent temperatures. It was snowing last week in Montreal so I'm not sure they would survive outside
Basil is tougher than you may think ! Its like a weed,, it may get frost bitten but it will come right back ! Those leaves look like irregular watering but no matter the problem just remove the burnt part and use as you want ! Don`t overthink your plants !
I'm tempted to risk planting some basil and tomatoes, maybe keep them covered or something... and see what happens. someone dare me too, and ill do it
I did not say to plant it outside now ! Although mine have been frost bitten and except for burning a few leaves it was fine ! I meant that it can take more cool temps than most people think ! It just can not take a hard freeze ! When it gets to 40 to 45 degrees it does fine here although it will be slow to grow ! But Texas has a more moderate climate than most areas ! I usually put mine on the south side and close to the house which blocks the wind ! Stevendw was that leaf touching anything and how do you water the plant ? Spotting can indicate water burn if sprayed or water is splashed on the leaves ! If thats the case and you put it back in a too warm environment it can cause the spots !
Hey guys small update on the basil. I changed my 6in oscillating fan to a small less powerful one. I think it was way too windy in the tent for the basil and was sucking the humidity out of the leaves. Everything is looking good now!
