    UPDATED TO INCLUDE PICTURE

What is this and how to get rid of it? (Forum software not offering a resize option. Will recheck and post photo later)

Sweet potato plants were fine then 3 hours later several leaves were FULL of holes.

I found what looked like 2 golden eggs beneath one if the leaves. When I sprayed with Neem, the “eggs” started moving!

Looking closely, they appear to be beetles or ticks. Iridescent gold with translucent bodies!

Neem irritates them but didn’t kill them. Neither did BT spray.

They “gave up the ghost” when I squished them! :sete_013:
Not able to upload image. Mine is too large and the system no longer has an option to resize photos. Will try again tomorrow

If you are using a desktop PC with Windows, then download IrfanView (it's totally free).

    https://www.irfanview.com/

Or if you are using a iPhone, (or a Linux desktop), then just use this free online version of JPEG Optimizer.

    http://jpeg-optimizer.com/

For Android smartphones, Google PlayStore has hundreds of apps which can resize and edit pictures with ease.

Thanks. If the problem persists I’ll install an app. But previously, “choose size” was an option when uploading photos.

Well it turns out that my iPad offered the option to resize photo but my iPhone does not! So...I uploaded pics from my iPad!

Here they are! It’s a tortoise bug!

shield bugs. Bad boys. don't just neem them drop them in soapy water or squish them. I am looking for a photo for you, but stink bugs was what popped up for the name. they are small ish like a ladybug size but beautiful! not ugly for a bad bug.

That sounds like my bug... the shield beetle. And it looked like a small “cinch” bug or a tiny lady bug. And it was hard to crush!

I didn’t find any eggs on the other plants but I sprayed Neem anyway as a precaution.
Could it have just been these 2 adults? I’ll look closely today.
    Thanks

I was able to insert a pic today but it’s a REALLY closeup. So you’re looking “through” the bug. I’ll try to show a better view.

Carolyn I REALLY think that’s ts them... stink bugs.
I found pictures in different colors and sizes but not iridescent like my specimens. But the shape and information was spot on!

Hopefully I’m inserting the link properly. https://stinkbugsguide.net/facts.htm

Very similar to milibugs over here. They also are terrible. But a little soap water, (as Carolyn too suggested) often gets rid of them.

Never saw a stink bug other than brown, interesting! Re: photos, you may have luck resizing in paint (on Windows) or use the edit tools in google photo app.

Or upload the picture at a place like Pinterest, then share the link with everyone here. Or directly embed it in your post.

yep... the golden tortoise bug. I do believe it used to be refered to as the shield bug but once the stinkbug got a foothold as a terrible pest it looks more like a shield than not so I think the name got repurposed...
