Went to the store today to replenish what has been used during the shutdown ( as it may be ) ! After 432 trips to the car and back,, i am bushed not to mention having to do this one handed after the double bone graft ! so i thought i would get some of the microwave stuff ! i am paranoid enough about food and even the top quality stuff has warnings! well,, if i have to worry about all that i might as well eat a bologna sandwich ! at least its safe to eat ! what do you think ?
well,, bologna, cheese, and fresh tomato sandwich is my preference be it breakfast, lunch or dinner this time of year ! i have other lunch meats but it just isn`t the same ! normally you will not find any of this stuff in my freezer,,i even make my own freezer meals ! but after 2 + months of this broken arm and 2 surgeries i figured it wasn`t going to kill me to have a quick meal ! i wanted to try the butternut squash ravioli in browned butter sauce without me trying to make it,,,which i can not do right now ! it was a major brand ! best thing i can say about it is ,,i guess you wouldn`t starve to death ! after reading the back of the carton,,,i put my skillet on the stove,, browned my butter,, and tossed the ravioli in after microwaving ! at least that way i know its safe to eat !
I had broken my wrist in childhood, and in adulthood my elbow too, once. People who have never had any such injury will never understand this - They say so what? Your other hand/arm is completely fine, isn't it? WRONG!!! As the other uninjured arm gets used up in taking care of the broken one. So at times, specially in the start, you are down to just 10% of your usual mobility, (instead of 50% which people assume). So I can completely understand what you are going through these days...
Mart. I'd go with the sandwich also. We do have a microwave meal once a week. On Friday evenings we watch PBS Newshour, followed by Washington Week. Since they are on TV during our normal dinner time, we have Big Easy brand frozen cajun (shrimp etoufee is my favorite). Otherwise, we skip quick and easy, but then I don't have a broken arm.
s-h is right ! i would not wish this on anyone ! have never seen that brand ! however with a little additional stuff added i have used campbell soup jazzy jambalaya as a base for shrimp jambalaya plus what ever veggies you have that go with it, add sausage shrimp half a cup of picante sauce or ro-tel and rice ! simmer a few minutes and dinner is served ! ok,, not in that order of course but you know which to do first !
Mart, I have never broken anything but I can't imagine functioning with only one hand for months on end. To say nothing of the pain & discomfort. My husband likes Annie's frozen microwavable meals. I like open faced cheese sandwiches under the broiler with whatever toppings we have on hand. What about those frozen lasagnas? Are they terrible? (Of course you'd need someone else to put it in and take it out of the oven for you.) Best wishes to you Buckaroo.
have no idea about most of the lasagna`s have tried one or two of the single servings,,,all i can say is,,,make it yourself and save your food dollars !
I had to have surgery on my dominant hand, right in the palm, and it took me about a year to regain full use of it. I notice that I still do some things with my non-dominant hand that I didn't do before (i.e, opening some doors), so I guess it learned some new tricks! I bought a wall-mounted jar opener beforehand, and it was a life saver!! (I named it Vlad, because when not in use, it hinges down, and the two bolts look like eyes, with the jar opening mechanism looking like fangs.) I still have that thing mounted in the kitchen, and it has come in handy more times than I can count.
Mart, l will upload a dish for you tomorrow. It's something that doesn't really require both hands to make, (and is super quick) - I use to make it for myself when I was constantly on the move. So hopefully at breakfast, I will make it for myself again. Then upload pictures of it here on GardenStew. Takes about 5 minutes or less to make. But gives you the full energy of a complete mean - And of course, as I mentioned before, doesn't really require both hands.
Thanks s-h,, i need all the easy stuff i can get ! two week check up thursday ! had to get a bone stimulator and they ain`t cheap ! the co-pay is $750. and we have excellent insurance !
I just posted it in our recipe and cooking section here. It's basically prepper food, (for those who always want to stay combat ready, and so don't really have the luxury of time to plan out their meals). It's make quick eat quick food, which goes down easy, and thankfully doesn't come back up again!
