Thanks Mart. I am wondering if it is a “sweet” hot sauce.
Did you mean you’d never heard of beef n rocks or hachee?

Cayu— thanks for the hot sauce tip. What exactly is spam again? I cannot recall precisely what it is.
I always enjoy reading what you guys eat because your meals seem fancy sometimes. Lovely food and presentations.

Last night we had schnitzels with Brussels sprouts stamppot. Dubbelvla for pud.

@mart, the name "beef and rocks" is a great description though, isn't it? It's probably not so very far from the US beef with gravy and mashed potatoes.

Tonight we will have chicken of some kind. I will make extra. This is because I have a chicken pot pie in the freezer that is more like a veggie pot pie with chicken. I made two that way and I was a little short on chicken so i just added extra veggies. Fine in my book. Well my husband likes veggies okay but he thinks s dinner really needs meat as the main component.

So my plan is to pry the lid off the "chicken" pot pie and add more chicken to it. Wish me well with this surgical operation. I'll let you know how the patient faired tomorrow.

Sj, Spam is a canned ham-like product. My dad hated it. It was given to US troops during WWII. Meat that was portable, didn't need to be refrigerated, etc. I think he had so much of it while stationed in France during the war years that he just couldn't stomach it stateside. My Mom used to serve it to us kids when he wasn't home for dinner. We thought it was great! .......But at my age now, not so much.

The can says "FULLY COOKED, READY TO EAT-COLD OR HOT. I guess that was one of the features that made it so handy. And if memory serves me right, you didn't need a can opener to open it. It had one of those keys that you inserted into the strip of metal to open it.

My husband bought some this spring when the virus was really surging around us.

    Righty-oh! Gottit.
That label with contents made me blink. Those are high percentages in spite of it being “lite”. I can see that it can be held for a long time. Ideal for the military or staying home during a pandemic. We have some similarish stuff that we keep in the pantry for when we get home late from a long day gardening at the lottie. In those instances the food needs to be fixed quickly with as little prepping possible. We usually chop it into cubes and mix it through a stir-fry. It works alright.
Did you say that it had a key to remove the top...not a John Wayne?

I am like your man in that meat is central for me too; however having said that, I could easily flip over to eat just veggies if it were necessary. We already eat veggie meals now and then...especially in the lottie—just picked beans and spuds. We cook on gas.

Well meid, I am looking forward to seeing how your amended chicken pot pie works out tonight. Gôh, I really liked eating those when I was living over there.

We will have chilli Denny’s style with spaghetti.

Cayuga, instead of prying up the pie lid, try cutting it just inside the crimped crust, lifting off the circle, adding chicken, and replacing the lid. Much easier, and although some liquid will leak out, it makes a lovely gravy-like edging. (This is from a woman who forgot a main ingredient in beef pot pie--the beef!)

    Jane, you are too hilarious.
    But your tip sounds solid.
We are curious how it will go aren’t we.

All our cans of Spam have the opener like a pop-top can drink. The canned meat product....also known as fake Spam, comes without the opener. We have it REAL SPAM quite often and love it. Sliced thin, pan fried, served with Black-eyed peas and mashed potatoes...one of our favorite meals. And don't try to use the 'lite' version as a substitute...just not the same.

    Sounds delish mart!

I agree mart, those key openers were a pain & dangerous too. Easy to cut a finger.

Sj:. !!!! I am only beginning to figure out how I want to make the chicken for tonight. I'll tackle the dissection of the patient tomorrow with the cooked chicken.

Recentlly a friend who flies to Hawaii frequently sent me some Spam from Hawaii that had different flavors ! Pretty good but the Jalapeno could have had more pepper added ! I like a little heat ! Too bad they didn`t ask me before making it !!

Some of the flavored Spam is available here too but we are not all that adventuresome and
not tried them. Besides the old warning 'if it ain't broke don't fix it" keeps rattling around in my head.
