We have a trail cam that catches our local night life on it. The deer are so curious about the camera and love having their pics taken. Here is a doe that needs some instructions on taking selfies. The other pic is of a beautiful 8 or 10 point buck. We had at least 5 different bucks show up on our trail cam before hunting season. So far we haven't seen anymore.
Chuckle, I know Cayu; however, when in Connecticut I spoke with a family where the man fed deer throughout the year so that he could draw one in and shoot one in his yard when the season opened. What a guy.
Awful. I believe in New York state it is illegal to shoot a deer at a feeding station. The guy who keeps an eye on our "farm" when we are not there feeds the deer during the winter months. He has a wildlife camera focussed on them and recognizes all the bucks. He worries about them during rough winters. He is a bow hunter but he can't stand to shoot any of the deer he knows. He hunts at the back of our property and the back of his own for deer he does not recognize. He also has two ponds and feeds his fish in them daily. They come swimming over to him when he shows up. He can't stand to fish them.
What an interesting anecdote about your farm watchman/caretaker. It would make sense that it would not be permitted by law, but aside from that, is not sporting and in a way, immoral.
Yes the deer are very curious. We live out in the country, and 3 of our neighbors hunt deer. They only shoot the bucks, so the does are safe. But we couldn't kill one either. My hubby has a hard time thinning the veggie garden. He hates to see those little baby plants not having a chance to get big. Since hunting started we have only seen the does and their fawns with them on our trail cam. We also feed the deer if the weather gets bad. Last year we let our pasture get longer and then cut it and made grass hay for the deer. Reg. hay is not good for them. We also feed them a little cracked corn. To much of that isn't good for them either. I would rather shoot them with our trail cam. It's more fun seeing what is out there. We also have had coyotes on our camera.
