Hello everyone. I live in the rainforest area of Puerto Rico. I like all kinds of plants and do most of my gardening in containers. Thanks for the welcome!

Well, here are some of my Red Lady papayas. I sowed the seeds mid October last year. They are in 5 gal containers now. IMG_20210105_132713243_HDR_resize_40.jpg

how do they taste? are they better than the ones we get offered here. I won't eat the ones we get here and would be interested to taste a homegrown one to see if they are better.

They certainly appear to grow quickly. Are there different varieties of papaya? Do the seeds come true to the parent plant? This tropical plant is all new to me and I am very curious.

I purchased the seeds online. They are all Thai Red Lady hybrid, or something like that. I have only seen pictures of what the fruit looks like. Most people here buy the fruit and then sow the seeds. So you see a lot of the supermarket variety growing on people's land. I don't believe I've seen the Red Lady in supermarkets.

@carolyn, to be honest I've never tried this variety. I don't like supermarket papayas. Red Lady papaya is supposedly much sweeter than other varieties. It is a dwarf variety and early producer, sometimes even the first year. I have yet to find out.
