Spot the difference.

Had two pics of a bird in the same spot but days apart. A male and female Varied thrush.

 

Lovely beasts. The female’s colours look more faded. Are their orange wing strips different as well?

 

The males black is a lot darker than the female.

 

Beautiful. Their colors kinda go with the branch they are sitting on.

 

You can say that again, Eileen— we have the same ones as you.
But...they can zing.

 

They're beautiful, wish ours was like that.

 

Have no idea what the Good Lord had in mind when he made males brighter and prettier than females ! Should be the opposite !

 

Hi Mart, the males are brighter to attract females and most females are browns to hide when on the nest etc. No good shining like a beacon attracting predators. Female kingfishers are one of two birds that have the brighter colors.
