A few gardens away, this chap is growing artichokes. I haven't seen him for a few weeks and his artichokes have begun to bloom. They are a lovely and exotic-looking flower.
@Sjoerd, I only just found this thread These huge thistle flowers are wonderful to look at while they are behaving themselves, and I thought they could make an interesting addition to my new gardens.....then I found out that ''handsome is as handsome does'' They have huge hungry roots like great boulders and seed freely. Mine were such a problem we had to find the crowbar to hoick them out. I shall not be bothering to grow any more
they look like thistles. I missed this also as that was the time my dad passed away. too many family needs this year for me to see or say much. maybe now its winding down. my mother in law passed away last week and my father in law needed to be placed in a care facility after he fell and fractured his knee and now has a non weight bearing leg. I have been treading water all Summer so to speak just being the one and only caregiver to my very elderly inlaws and then we all got hit with the covid one person after another for 6 weeks. sigh. thankfully we are back on our feet too..
