We all seem to have a list of plants and trees, which we desire to grow - But for one reason or another, we just can't ever have them... So what's on your list? I always wanted to have a Cashew Nut Tree. My climate is perfect for it - But impossible for me to get a sapling of it. As they grow in India, which is an enemy country from our point of view... So travel and exchange of anything material, is extremely difficult... They also grow in parts of Africa and in Vietnam too. So maybe one day I'll travel over there to get a sapling. But anything from India is impossible - It would actually be easier to get something from Antarctica, than from India which is right next door. Next thing on my list is the Sandalwood Tree. It's wood is very aromatic, and so highly prized. But this too is mainly grown in India. So for the same reason, I cannot have it so easily - Even though my climate is perfect for this tree also. Recently however, another planet on my list was the Ghost Pepper Bhut Jolokia - Also from Nagaland in India, and so another impossibility for me... But just a over a week ago, I was able to get it's seeds online. So that's 1 down and 2 to go. Anyway, what's on your list of plants and trees, which you always wanted, but could never have.
At the moment, I'm waiting for one of these to become available. An Acer Palmatum Taylor. We did buy one on line two years ago, but it was a bit of a sorry specimen which was delivered, nothing like the one in the on-line photo, so we got a full refund. It struggled on until early this year but that sharp frost four months ago killed it. None have been available on-line, so far this year.
Yet another protracted search on the internet found one! https://www.cherry-lane.co.uk/products/acer-palmatum-taylor.html Just have to delete all ther cookies from the garden centres I logged onto who didn't have one.
Fig tree! I am very fond of fresh figs. These trees can't take our climate. If I had an orangery I would most certainly grow a fig or two in there, but I haven't got that either.
Eucryphia. There is one along the road so they grow here. Would not have survived in our last garden, too cold.
The acer palmatum taylor I posted about last year arrived and survived the winter in the shed and is now doing well on the patio. I've canes in the pot to coax the branches to adopt a more balanced distribution. I'll be able to take them away later in the year.
I will take a 'Koto No Ito' Acer palmatum. I have many of them but I will take more....LOL.. It starts out a full 5 love leaf and splits quickly to this...I could have 20 more of them..
