The first thing we did today was to pot-up the last seven pots of spun honey.

The weather app warns of an impending storm coming. We popped out to the lottie to remove most of the remaining apples. Here you can see one of our trees. I thought that I ought to quickly snap a foto before it would become clean.

When we finished picking the two little trees, we washed the apples off and laid them out on the straw path to dry.

We made more applesauce, but there were too many left so we decided to gift some folks we will take them around tomorrow. But first, we thought to try making a tarte tatin.

It looked great, it tasted very bitter. The pastry was perfect. It was inedible and had to be binned. I am taking the blame for it, as I suggested using the brown sugar instead of the white. You see, the brown one already included caramelised sugar, so when we heated the sugar to becoming fluid, it caramelised again— and that is when it burned.

Here is the tarte flipped over. Mme Tatin would turn over in her grave.:

So then, undaunted by this disaster, we made a apple crumble.

It turned out perfectly and we ate like culinary ruffians. Goodness gracious me !

Well I placed the last of the applesauce in the pantry then organised it all. The Bride accused me of showing off, but I can see it all better now and it is organised in a way that the oldest is in the front, and the newest is in the back.

I still had a few glass pots left, but they were honey jars. They will have to go downstairs and take up residence with the other honey supplies.

Oh to have a pantry like yours. Sadly our kitchen just isn't big enough and doesn't have a lot of storage space. :(

Sjoerd, I need you to come organize our pantry! That is simply lovely, and I am both envious and happy that you have all those good things waiting to be enjoyed.

I’m so sorry Eileen. Where do you keep your jams, chutneys and so forth?

Jane— thanks a mil. I would be delighted to come but of course it would cost you. My payment would of course have to be your cooking.:D

Ta Tetters. It is fun filling it up. Almost a shame to eat it all. I could just stand and look at those tasty jars. Ha ha ha. My Bride thinks that I am crackers.

I didn’t realise. What a shame. Do you put up any veg at all? Do you eat your vegfresh?
    Well, maybe next season.

well that was a real shame to waste all that time and effort as well as the materials huh, S? I hate it when I make a mess and have nothing to show for it. This year though I haven't done much of anything in the way of canning or preserving. life just got in the way. I had my inlaws that I was taking care of for the past 6 months all day every day and then we all got covid and then my dear motherinlaw passed away on Oct 4th and my father in law fell the week prior to that and fractured his knee (non weight bearing, too) and is now in a care home. sigh. now I am cleaning up the garden and cleaning out their house... no spare time for baking for the time being. BUT I do still have an apple tree that is not ripe and is loaded so maybe just maybe I will get something made...

Yeah, I didn’t like that either. What made it worse is that my Bride doesn’t like to bake at all. We do not even have a conventional oven. We have a sort of hot air thing in a microwave. Well, at least it worked for the crumble.
I really hope that your remaining apple tree works out for you. Fingers crossed.

well S, there are little counter top toaster ovens that would work as well. they are lightweight and portable. you could get your oven baked items done with one of these really easy or trot next door and tell them your oven isn't working (because you don't have one... but don't confess that) take two. one for your neighbor to keep and one for you to eat. win win. I have two ovens in my kitchen and a third one down in the basement. I use the two in my kitchen all day several days a week during market season. I can't imagine not having an oven but it sure would keep the kitchen work to a minimum.

Ahhh. I see. Well, I don’t think that I need to come ith that suggestion because after all thee years her dislike of baking is well known. I can just see her reaction—she’d give me one of those squinty-eyed look out of the corner of her eye. Hahaha.
Heck, if we have croissants we have to warm those in the air-fryer.

Mmmmm! Let's see, it's not that far away from here. By plane and train, then a ladder or better, a lock pick, and I'm off with half that larder.

I think the starlings are full from plundering my apple tree, so I'll keep my stolen goodies all to myself!
