Droopy! my stars. so glad to see you back again. I actually wondered about you not long ago. thank you for the condolences.
@Netty .. so sorry for the struggles you are going through with your father. it sure is a long hard journey. the nursing home issue is real and everywhere. We barely could get my father in law into one. we had a call in for getting both of my inlaws in but we were on a waiting list as they weren't admitting anyone due to staff shortages.

Good to see you all too, carolyn. I have missed you but every time I have actually managed to dig my way to the computer something's come up. Life is more quiet now so I have plans to hang out here a few times per week. I won't promise, though, since we never know what winter will bring.

@Droopy.. I get it everyone here can attest to how little I have been around with all the care giving I was tending to. life just gets in our way sometimes and certainly interrupts it.

Good Sunday morning all. Currently just 4°C and feeling like 0°C. We have had frost for 2 mornings now, yesterdays was mild and patchy. We shall see what plants are lost today.
I did manage to get some things done out in the yard yesterday - finally got all of the spring trimmings burned, the grass cut and the trampoline put away for the winter. Today I hope to get some gardens cut back and one of the new raised beds filled with compost. Things don't always go as planned but that's my plan!
Have a great day all :)

Netty, I hope your plans pan out! Sounds ambitious, but you are an ambitious gal.
I made applesauce with the last of the culled apples--glad to get them off the counter and into the freezer.
Husband is putting the finishing touches on Yule logs. We had a large cedar branch come down in the pasture, so he cut it into appropriate lengths, drilled holes for three candles, and I hard-rolled white paint on the bark to simulate snow. We'll tack some plastic greenery and little red balls on them and give them as Christmas gifts right after Thanksgiving.

Good afternoon all. I was going to shift some gravel today but the weather was rather unappealing so I've made pumpkin cookies and roasted seeds instead. And paid bills. Hope your Monday is a good one.

Good Friday afternoon all. Currently 10°C and sunny.
    What a BAD week!
Monday and Tuesday we had torrential rain, and Wednesday my Dad passed away. It was the last thing we expected that day. My sister and I are sad of course, but we both are at peace. Dad had a long life (just shy 95 years), a fantastic wife and best friend of 62 years, 2 children, 5 grand children and 2 great grandchildren. He was never the same after Mom passed last December and now they are together again.
I'm going to relax this evening, perhaps with an adult beverage, and reflect.

Oh Netty, please accept my condolences on the passing of your father. He certainly had an exceptional daughter (you) and another, too. He will be missed, but there will be so many happy memories your extended family can share.
With that "adult beverage" toast your dad and his long and fruitful life.

awww Netty, my condolences also on his passing. I said we expected it when my dad passed but not "today" when it happened.... I understand it being the last thing you expected that day. Prayers for you all.

Happy Halloween everyone! Personally, I'll be glad it's over and we can get on with Thanksgiving.
I harvested more parsley this morning and will prepare it for freezing. It's a nice addition to soups and stews, even when chopped up into iddy bitty pieces.

Good Sunday morning all. Currently 9°C and overcast.
We moved dads things out of his apartment yesterday. Today we rest.
Actually, thats not entirely true - today I'm cleaning and doing laundry. This house is a MESS!
Have a great day all :)

My day started off in an unusual manner. There were a dozen pumpkins piled up by our door, with a note from a friend that she had collected all the "decorative" pumpkins in her neighborhood. She brought them to me because I had told her how to make pumpkin puree and she thought that, rather than having neighbors throw the pumpkins out, they could be put to use. I called her to ask if she had permission to gather the pumpkins, and yes, she had. In fact, the neighbors were happy to not have to deal with them.

So sorry for your loss @Netty. You describe your parents in such a lovely way.

@marlingardener , I wish somebody would leave their pumpkins on my doorstep. The shops here sell them for Halloween and after that we have to buy super-expensive ones because those are the only ones they sell.

We are having the predicted rain event, so my usual Wednesday trip into town has been postponed. I have a small box of donation items for the food pantry/thrift store, and I don't think they would appreciate soggy items!
At least my husband is getting a day of rest--no mowing, no workshop since paint doesn't dry well with the high humidity, and no gardening. He picked peppers and tomatoes yesterday on his way back from tidying up the barn. He is becoming quite the vegetable gardener!
