I should have known better than to order our door wreaths from IKEA: Just kidding. I've bought some new decorations and bows. The bases are re-used until they fall apart and are beyond repair and most of the greenery is from our garden. I had to buy a few twigs for contrast. This is ours. That penguin has been in our wreath for over twenty years. I have tried to leave him out but I got threatened with no dinner and straight to bed, so...: This is our neighbour's wreath. She never asked me but I made one and put on her door as a prank many years ago. Then I just kept on doing it and now it's tradition: And this is for my vets and their three children. They're nice people, awfully busy and love my wreaths so it's a small thing to do to repay them for everything they've done for my animals: Please let me see what you hang outside for Christmas!
Oh Droopy, you would be disgusted with our bare green wreath. It eventually earns itself a red bow, but that's about it! I do love the smell of it though everytime I go in or out the door.
Those are lovely. I reworked an old white wreath that we've had for many years. I applied two sparkly green arrangements that I bought last year on clearance. No bows, just added a few pinecones. We had quite a bit of wind over the last few days and now many of the pinecones are on my porch.
Those wreaths are beautiful! We have a lot of evergreens. Maybe I should make one. Not sure about the wire support... I love the succulent wreaths with sempervivums and sedums. Maybe I should try to grow one...
Droopy, you make the most gorgeous wreaths every year. I can still remember your wreaths from years past. You really do have a talent. We have made wreaths before but now live in an apartment building with no place to hang them. I still like seeing yours.
Droopy's wreaths are gorgeous! The one with the penguin is especially adorable. Where do you get your ideas, Droopy? Are you just that naturally creative? Sjoerd, we hang a wreath on the front door. We have a wreath hangar (Thin metal in a contorted S shape that fits over the door while still allowing it to close). Perhaps you could do that for the apartment door.
I shall check that out, Jane. Handy thing, that. Thank you a mil for that idea. As it is now, we have a light that projects falling snowflakes on the second floor balcony.
No, I wouldn't because I love simple, green wreaths. They don't really need a lot of decoration, especially if I use several types of greenery. The colour shades and textures are enough. And a bow of course. But try telling my family that! Thank you! Oh, dear, that's too bad. Ours are sheltered so I don't have that to worry about. Thank you! I like to use straw rings for base. I tried a styrofoam ring once but straw feels more comfortable to work with. A succulent wreath sounds like a very good idea and now I'm thinking about that too. Thank you! You're too kind. You don't have to hang a wreath. Get yourselves a christmassy door mat and you should be OK? Thank you! I have my creative moments. That penguin came to be in the wreath because my children insisted. I felt he needed some animal company so Pingu, the squirrels, and the mouse have welcomed a lot of guests over the years. I can get away with changing things around if I've only done it a certain way once. Twice, then it's tradition and one does not take lightly to changing anything remotely like tradition in this house. I am outnumbered three to one.
Thanks Eileen. I would love for you to be my neighbour! Unfortunately I don't think I can persuade anybody I know to move to Scotland with me.
