I searched fruitlessly for buttermilk today. Since it is Thankgiving some grocery stores were closed as was WalMart, but 3 were open. Wondering why such a basic baking commodity was off the shelves here, I googled a bit and found that a local supplier had closed 7 locations but I also found this video jewel and thought it was interesting. I ordered some of the starter. I look forward to its arrival.

My father used to make his own buttermilk (can't remember how) but I never acquired a taste for it.

On my part I think I was a sweet kid and a sour adult, taste wise anyway. It grew on me over the years. I can remember Mother at her family farm enjoying buttermilk, cornbread and onions.

My dad had gastritis & he regularly drank buttermilk to combat the acidity in his stomach.

    There was a time…..:(
There’s nothing better than butter milk biscuits or sourdough anything :like: Fermentation of foods is making a comeback in my household but only for veggies. Unfortunately our household doesn’t consume enough to maintain healthy cultures for bread or milk products.
I really miss sour milk butter. What a treat it was.
