Its time for round two today.
Here is a link to the recipe that we wound up using, complete with a lil vid:
    https://tasty.co/recipe/the-best-chewy-chocolate-chip-cookies

Right then, we took this on as a team (more or less) and spread everything out on the counter. If you looked at it, it would look like a hopelessly chaotic mess...and the spillage had not even begun.

So, I started off with whisking the sugars and salt. When I was measuring the sugar, I showed the Bride the almost full measuring cup. She said, no it must be full, so I added more. I asked if it ought to be mounded or flat. She said flat, to which I remarked, “Oh that’s nice, i’m standing here with full hands and nothing to scrape the mound off with. I just used the handle of another measuring cup to accomplish the sort the technical problem.

She would periodically bring over the little film on that website up above so that we could check and see that we were doing it right. When it showed the woman that makes the dough stirring stuff in I increased my speed to match her speed, which made the Bride nervous (hahaha, the film is speeded up).

Then the Bride chucked in the melted butter, egg and vanilla which I continued to whisk until the mix looked silky.

Next we sifted flour and baking soda in, and I continued whisking again which elicited a shrill objection...”No,no,no,no,no—-don’t beat it, it’ll turn into cake, it said so in the recipe. Foooooooooooold it in with a spatula”!

“Oh...I knew that”, I weakly retorted.

Lastly, the broken up chocolate was folded in. It always looks like sooo much chocolate when I chop the bars up. Well, one wants to have enough chocolate, right.

We let the dough rest in the fridge for about a half an hour, then into the oven the balls went to cook.

Ladies and gentlemen, the result— just in time for tea.

The Bride says that they are just as thin as the first time, I say they are a bit thicker. On thing we both agree on, the taste is verrrrry good.

:setf_016: They look like super cookies to me - lovely job. Maybe you could use the same recipe and use nuts instead of chocolate for a change ?
That reminds me, I shall have to make some more cookies tomorrow, we are running out, I hope they turn out as well as yours.

    Too right, Eileen...too right.

    Cheers, Z.

Tetters— Thanks a mil. Fingers crossed for you today.i don’t know if I shall try nuts though. My Bride tells me that with a big, seedy nutcase like me in the family, we are already overdosing on nuts.

KK— yes, for me it is about the taste firstly. I would like to have them turn out like I want to see them though. Ha, ha.

Oh for goodness sake Sjoerd, cookies are supposed to look like that:rolleyes: If you want pristine round shapes you have to get one of those cutter thingies.
My oaty biscuits for cheese were cut out with a cutter thingy, but I think they were left in the oven too long - passable though. The others I did today were a bit small and nobbly but they looked great when I had my eyes shut - they were coconut with left over peanuts added - we aren't quite as nutty as you yet clearly :D

Thanks Loggie. Music to my ears.

Tetters— Right, I get it. Yeah, I have to let the shape thing go, but it is the thickness that I think I need to work on. I will try once more to see if my latest tip will help me to get them thicker. Of course, it is really about the taste, right?
It sounds like you may not be as pleased with your efforts today as you wanted to but I’ll bet that Z could eat your seconds all day long.

Sorry it took so long but things have been hectic in last two weeks ! Here is the recipe I use,, I divided it a bit unless you want enough for an army !
    1 3/4 C. AP flour
    about 3/4 tsp soda
    1/2 tsp salt
1/2 C. each brown sugar and white sugar
2 Tbsp butter and a large spoonful of shortening !
    1 tsp vanilla
    2 eggs
    1 C chocolate chips !
I just mix all dry ingredients together then add the rest and stir to mix ! Chill about 20 minutes then cook !
I just make about 1 inch balls and do not flatten out except a little bit !
    cook at 350 for 12 minutes !
If you are still using the microwave try this,, cook on high for 2 minutes then wait 1 minute, then two more and wait and last 2 minutes and don`t open the door for 1 minute, Then check them !
It may work for you ! longer time may be needed where you are and the power of the microwave !
A tip,, adding a bit more brown sugar than white can keep them softer !

Before I posted the recipe I made them for hubby just to make sure the divided recipe worked ! They stayed soft til they were gone ! Got to thinking about using the micro for baking and happened to remember that since it cooks from inside out, sort of, the wait time like I posted gives it time to cook together ! Haven`t checked that yet but I bet I can figure it out ! Merry Christmas to everyone where you are !
Only thing I can say is I didn`t use enough chocolate chips in mine ! I cut it down to half a cup for mine !

S, I have baked thousands of cookies in the past 10 years for my farmers markets. I don't like flat cookies. they look like "less" in a package. the trick I learned for cc cookies is to add a bit of baking powder to my cc cookie recipe (this will need to be an experiment for your recipe. Mine takes 1/2 teaspoon but I make a 14 dzn btch.). and dont overbake them. My recipe calls for instant vanilla pudding too. I sell 25 dz of them a week at my two farmers markets. rarely do I take any home. yours look tasty tough just like they are.
