Hi from South FL!

Hi everyone! My name is Alyssa and I'm a millenial who is very interested in traditional hobbies (hence the name!). This is my second year gardening in raised beds and in South Florida, it's been quite a challenge! We have lots of pests and fungal diseases here with the heat and humidity, and since I don't know anyone else personally who gardens, I'm hoping to learn a bunch from you folks.
My garden is expanding rapidly and I'm working hard to keep all my plants as healthy as possible. All suggestions are welcome. I'll be posting in the other forums to ask specifics!

Welcome! I hope you find your answers, unfortunately, my climate is vastly different from yours. I have not gotten to battle desease of plants, and I hope not to, but I do hope you find your answer!

As for your climate, being hot and humid - I have similar conditions over here at my coast. So I'm sure everyone will assist you in becoming an expert Gardener in no time!

Welcome @traditionalmillenial Alyssa. I hope your garden thrives.

One thing I learned and continue to relearn over and over again, is that local circumstances determine what can be grown, and there are lots of things that can be grown everywhere. It's just a matter of learning what things for where we are. Some times it's a matter of trial and error. I like to look at old yards, where people planted things many years ago, because what someone's grandma planted, if it is still growing, is probably well adapted for here. What is at the big orange big box store might not be so appropriate.

Where I live, my struggles are warm weather followed by late frost. That kills things that came out of dormancy (lilacs, some plums, all apricots) that do fine in colder or warmer climates. And deer. I have to find things deer don't like.

I looked up plants that do well in Florida. There are some lovely ones!
