Hot weather has arrived. I set a timer to avoid overdoing it - one hour garden work in am, one hour in pm. I gave the sweetcorn a dose of fertilizer and Epsom salts, gave a large planting of mixed sedums a new home under a fig tree, planted a ginger plant in the onion bed.

Then I extended the main irrigation line to the rest of the squashes, some planters and some mini apple trees. Irrigating the squashes will mean about ten fewer trips with watering can, each day, in the heat. Testing, I made some mistakes that caused some leaks. The hour was up, so that will have to wait for tomorrow.

This morning watered the blueberries and the pots in the front by the front door and kitchen window, nothing else to do in the garden, it's too hot in the afternoons.

Too hot to do anything apart from giving the acers a mist spray around 2.00pm.

All the pots will get a water around 6.00pm.

It looks like I'm shifting in two days to a week of heat also, but nothing like last year so far. The snow pack is at 185 % and delayed over three weeks in melting, so things will get interesting in my province. Take care in the heat everyone.

Yesterday I trimmed up the maples, cleaned out the red currants, gave the greenhouse a clean up and water, hilled and filled in the potatoes, and thinned some carrots. Today, in between rain, will be firewood and weeding the asparagus.

@Daniel W - I'll trade you some thistles for the mare's tail, wild raspberries and thimble berries...with a side of chickweed. :) hahaha Oh, and some cow's parsnip.

Lovely gardens and that is a huge amount of mulch! Kudos!

I've ground up twigs and branches. We have typical coastal summer weather with a temp range of between 10°C and 18°C, some rainy days and a few hours of dry here and there. I never work with electrical machinery in the rain, sissy that I am, but at least the pile of twigs and branches shrunk by 60%. It's raining again now.

I planted out a few more seedlings. There are still some marigolds, cleome, and thunbergera to go. I think the climate here might be too cool for thunbergera - they are not thriving.

A Hardy Chicago fig tree offset that I took in November, that had tiny wispy roots,

    Sorry for the blurry photo.

This was the offset last November. Some people call the "suckers" but that seems perjorative to me.

The local store had come compact growing Alstroemeria on sale. They were abused looking but I think they will perk up and make more flowers during the summer.

They were very root-bound, and the roots are thick and brittle, so a lot broke when I tried prying them apart. The big Alstroemerias that
i grow can take a LOT of abuse, so maybe these will be OK. I mixed organic vegetable fertilizer into the soil.

I planted a flat of basil seeds. The previous plants dwindled and died during cool weather.

Weed Sprayed Deer sprayed, got 2 fountains running, moved plants out of the greenhouse, and cleaned dead leaved in the greenhouse, dumped the 2 barrels of trash and organic matter, watered some plants that needed it, Fixed a statue that got chipped last year, planted some planters in the gardens, I took all the sealant out of our shower and will redo it tomorrow..not a big job at all, but very needed. and you know what?, there was too much to remember. That was 12 hours ago. Everyday we just do what is in front of us. We even went and bought more Koi for our little pond. Finally took a golf cart ride all over our property to see what we have to do tomorrow..That was fun..

Not in my garden but i went to see my friend Marion yesterday and planted a lupin and did some hoeing, had to be careful with my right side, it's getting better but i don't want to over do it. She doesn't really want me to help because she says that I'm not there to garden but i like helping her and i said that i don't mind, she doesn't know much about it.

Logan, part of gardening is sharing and helping, and by golly, you are a fine gardener!
Didn't do anything except watering herbs and checking on the carrots' progress. Husband is mowing (how does grass grow so well during a drought?) and then after a cold salad for lunch, we'll both relax. The cats have a head start on the relaxing part . . . .
