Hi! Monday evening, already August and we haven't had summer yet this year. Been busy inside and outside. The covid after-effects won't let go. I'm all out of energy and not too sociable either. Temps today between 11 and 15°C, mostly dry but with a couple of heavy showers. I'm way behind in all things garden. I dislike getting wet more than once per day. Would gladly trade some of our wet and cold for a few degrees and more sun.

Droopy, I sincerely hope the covid after effects go away soon, and that you get some warm and dry weather soon.
We got our second covid boosters today. I get the distinct feeling that when Pfizer is not happy with the company's bottom line, they come out with yet another booster. There is another booster due in September or October. I'll think about it.
Both cats showed up this morning for breakfast. Timi was missing all day yesterday, and we worried. I think she does that just to assert her authority!

Good Wednesday morning! 15°C and raining. I emptied the rain gauge, 26 mm in the last 24 hours and we've already got 5 new mm in there. More rain, some thunder, and wind forecast for the next few days. Gardening might happen between showers. Hope you enjoy your day!

Thanks @marlingardener. Slowly does it I guess. We've had three boosters plus covid so we should be OK for a couple of months until another variety shows up.

Good Wednesday morning all. Currently 12°C and cloudy. Its going to be a hot one today, and the weatherman says we will get thunderstorms later. We sure could use the rain.
I have the day off today since I worked the holiday on Monday. I have a bunch of running around to do today, not my favourite way to spend a day off, but things need to get done.
Have a great day all :)

First rainy cool day in a while, so it will be a kitchen day. ( and it is a coffee and a little bit of Stew morning ). I need to make some gluten free crepes to use for egg roll wrappers. I have a wheat allergy ( that used to be a sensitivity but blew up with over exposure), so I make my own GF flour blend and get creative for substitutes. Hubby will still use wheat egg roll wrappers. We are using up the last of the cabbage from the garden, some carrots, celery and onions and making egg rolls for dinner, and the freezer. I also need to take advantage of the cool and use the indoor oven to make bread for hubby today, and GF bread for myself. As well as some GF graham wafers to make mini cheese cakes tomorrow.

Only ten fires from the lightening storm the other day, and the rain that came with it and today is helping them remain small and away from our immediate area. Thankful for that.

Melody MC Yikes….. only 10 fires. Hope they are all put out soon.

The fires this season make us all a bit cautious when it comes to noticing how fast the land becomes so dry . So far no forest fires here. There is a big one along the Oregon-California border growing exponentially every day. Thousands of firefighters trying to do their best to save private property. None near us thank the Lord. We do have a green space I keep up surrounding our property. We live next to a old growth forest it was logged and stripped a few years ago. It’s all weeds now and trash trees. The fire station has inspected our property , documented where our water holding tanks are that hold 2400 gallons of water , we are on a well and marked where the well is located. And we store foam . All on record if needed. I also also have maintained our property and followed the protocols to also address homeowners insurance to receive a discount.
Sending prayers to the firefighters to stay safe ..

Today is a second day of much welcome and heavy rain with a high of ten. Bread and buns are rising and ready for the oven soon. Today will be a much needed home care day, with a good dusting and tidy. I can do "outside" and "inside"...but never both at once. :)

@Pacnorwest - Nice that you can get a discount on your insurance and you and your community is very proactive. People in my area only get a discount if they live within a fire protection zone, usually a volunteer fire department. We are 40 km away from such a zone, so our insurance has sky rocketed hundreds of dollars a year since the first big fires here in 2017. Hubby has fire supression training and has been involved in rapid attack on a few in the close area over the years. We keep a green space as well, and have two pumps, extensive pipes and irrigation, a fire hose system, back pack pumps, and roof top sprinklers if needed. And a lot of hope. :)

All but one of the fires in my area is being contained now. My part of the province is seeing relief with the rain, other parts sadly are being evacuated. The one common ground every country and community has is that Fire Fighters are true heros.

Good Thursday afternoon all. Currently 28°C feeling with 34°C with the humidex. Thankfully it was overcast most of the day, but we wont be that lucky tomorrow.
Did my errands and shopping after work today, and we'll be heading to the rink shortly. I really appreciate sitting in the rink on hot days like this, it kinda helps bring down my internal temperature. I'll probably have a swim when we get home too.
Tomorrow is Friday, and also payday :D

Your doing everything you possibly can to keep your home and property safe. Cudo’s to you. Every summer is always a major worry especially since climate change.
Our home is stucco/concrete and concrete roofing tiles helps a bit . I can’t imagine hooking up everything to our water system wouldn’t have enough pressure in the pressure tanks to run all the outside sprinklers at once. There is 30 pounds of pressure .
I will look into the back pack pumps and fire hose system you described. We do have extra fire hoses for the foam we store. It doesn’t sound cheap to set up a system like you described …but very effective. To save our homes it’s so worth it for the extra protection.
Just in the time I wrote this above post from yesterday ….7 new fires have broke out in Oregon. None are within a distance to be concerned near any property some are partially contained today. By RR tracks or lightening starts over night.

I agree that firefighters that push thru these horrific forest fires are the true hero’s and need to have more fire fighting equipment to help save lives and property. More money for more equipment to give them a better head start.
Happy to hear you got rain. Stay safe.

Good Friday morning! 11°C and rain. Temps have dropped below 10°C several nights in the last two weeks. This is unusually cold for the season. The garden looks awful and there's nothing I can do about it. Managed to break my iron two days ago. Had to buy a new one so I might finish the ironing today and also do some housework. Take care of yourselves and have a nice Friday.

I'm so sorry the weather and the coviditty of it all have you so down. Very understandable, and I certainly would be too. I guess, if there is an upside, ( suddenly I want upside down cake....) it proablaby would be killing you inside to not be able to be outside and garden on a lovely day, instead of taking the time your body needs to rest and recover on a cold rainy day.

A very wise and strong lady once told me that "the things that need to be done won't leave, and if they show any sign of doing so, be quick and open the door." Looks like that messy garden isn't going anywhere and you need some rest.

6 degrees C this AM. Angus and I did our walk with my mittens on and a toque. The neighbours lit a fire to warm up inside. I baked :) It will warm up again for a few days, but I will take the cool right now. We had two days of heavy rain, but nothing like what Droopy has had. Rain is difficult for a long time - not just the damp but you don't get to see the sun. Hugs your way Droopy. And some vitamin D??? hee hee. It was a good opportunity to do a lot of left behinds in the house. Hubby is doing a chimney sweep on both fires so that we are ready for the fall.

Off like a herd of turtles now to finish cleaning the bathroom ( hate that job) and the laundry room ( hate that one too, but not as much as the bathroom)

There is a new Vax coming to the states called Novavax, by Pfizer. Some pharmacies are already registered to get them. This one is not a mRNA, its an "inactive" vaccine, which will require 2 shots.
There is also a medication called 'Paxlovid', used to treat the effects of Covid. I understatnd lots of rest and drink a lot of fluids does help. Hope you feel better soon.

Hi all! Saturday, 11°C, rain, wind, and we're packing to leave this place for a couple of weeks' time or more. I've ran some errands, stocking up on bird food and meds. Youngest is working so she'll take care of birds, hedgehogs, the cats we don't really have, plants, etc. Treated myself to sushi for lunch. My tastebuds are almost back to normal. I feel I fit my monicer very well. Sorry. Hope I'm not bringing the rest of you down with me. Betcha the good weather will come when we leave, and we'll bring the bad weather with us. In that case, next stop the Sahara! Enjoy the day.

I'm not very good at listening to my own advice, but thanks for sympathy and comfort.
