I had to look "Pacific Northwest" up myself a couple of weeks ago Tetters - wasn't sure where it was. Not just you It sure is a big world that we live in - love seeing so much from so many parts of it. I hope you get rain soon ( rain dance rain dance rain dance - coming your way)
Mine too!!! And ...I'm a geographical neighbour. You are an ocean away. I constantly have to look up locations in my own continent. Actually - my own province never mind another country.
My raspberries are in full swing but the leaves are turning yellow already on this years canes. LL - atleast the yellow will allow you to see it better! I'm so glad I don't have that stuff. I've heard horror stories.
The squirrels are going NUTS… This is just one area …they are digging in all round the house . This area took 3 days to water the soil back under the house thru thee holes on this side. Planrskyyd has discouraged more digging .
The first signs for me is the leaves falling from some of the trees on the higher parts of my golf course. Our hedgehog is building himself up as he will start to hibernate in about five or six weeks. Two years ago I stopped feeding the squirrel whole peanuts as it kept digging holes in the lawn to bury them and I started using kibbled peanuts.This cured the problem. But then yesterday, I noticed a few holes in the lawn, then some nut shells under an acer. The little sod has been getting his nuts elsewhere, bringing them into the garden, shelling them and then burying them in our lawn!
Doghouse Riley …That’s funny the squirrel still hurries back and buries his treasures in your garden, try putting down horticulture mint spray or Plantskyyd. It has kept them out around my garden . Once the digging is identified put it around the area and it really works. No more holes . Today my collie swallowed one lil brown chipmunk whole… I caught her and told her to spit it out… and she did the whole thing… gross….
@Doghouse Riley - the Squirrels have taste! You have a beautiful garden. Re: plantskyyd...it's basically bloodmeal. It may scare away your sweet little 'Arry from his safe and loving abode that you've worked so hard at. So cute that he's chunking up for the big sleep. Some of the willows are turning yellow by the creek. A few leaves are letting go, but not a lot yet. The first poplar that turns yellow on the drive to town is turning also.
The hydrangeas are drying on stem almost ready to gather them for floral displays. Letting the amaryllis go dormant.
