Still fighting the doggone squirrels, now they have dug under the house under the foundation . I hear scratching in the walls. have to set up a squirrel bait trap. They can cause serious damage to foundations and cracking on the porch area has already started.

Sorry about the computer boo-boo. I was posting a picture of the Texas night snake, and somehow messed up.
Anyway, this is a non-venomous snake that decided it liked our yard. We think he's kinda cute!

I also think it's kinda cool Jane.

@Pacnorwest I know a way of trapping squirrels. Actually red squirrels, but I'm guessing it's the same as with grey ones. PM me if you need a suggestion.

I really like the markings on the snake Jane - the 'photo shows them nice and clearly.
Red squirrels are endangered here in Scotland so trapping or killing them is against the law. They only live in pine forests and seldom come into contact with humans. However, the greys are the ones that cause all the damage and also carry squirrel pox which kills the reds. We're allowed to get rid of greys to help preserve the population of reds.

We have no squirrels here on the farm. There are lots of them in town, but none here. There is a pecan grove down by Sandy Creek, and they stay there. Also, there are no dogs or cats by Sandy Creek!

We have the gray squirrels here. No problems with them yet.
If the snake isnt causing trouble... does he keep the mice and critters down?

Lillium, snakes are great for reducing the varmint population. We leave snakes alone (except for the occasional photo) and let them do their thing. Nature will balance if we keep our noses out of its business!

We have noticed that many creatures that don't usually visit have been coming to the village to find water, and there is always plenty here for them. We caught a few hedgehogs and a rabbit as well as a badger on one of the recent night cam videos. I will ask Zigs to upload it for you. We also have to keep a look out for the Adders, as we know they are about.
We have a new neighbour who used to live on a farm, and she has brought all her farm cats with her - she wouldn't tell us how many, but there are fewer other pests now. Our old dog refused entry to one of them in no uncertain tones!!
