    All done!

From a distance, the subtle fabric patterns dont show well. Up close, they are more visible.

The back is also a patchwork, only far simpler. I made that to use up fabric I had on hand,

Overall I'm happy with this quilt. Since it is rather subtle with muted shades, I think the next will make use of much richer color and bolder patterns. The next is in the planning stage.

This is really a beauty. I love the subtle transition of the colours - it feels like the sky to the ocean. Well done Daniel. :)

I'm debating using this as an inspiration for another quilt top.

Those are by Wasilly Kaminsky (1866-1944) and they seem cheerful and animated.
Of course I can't reproduce them, and don't want to. I can't do the watercolor shading and the black lines will be a challenge. More a starting off point and inspiration. I might use batik fabrics. Just brainstorming. I have two, much more traditional quilt tops still in planning stage.

Here's the start of the next quilt. It took about a year to collect the fabrics (thrifted shirts to upcycle) . Now they are washed, starched, ironed, cut at the seams, arranged by color.

It's all curated, dark reds and pale greys or white based patterns.

There will be eight of these stars.

I decided to bite the bullet and ordered a deep red batik for the eighth star point. Waiting for that to arrive so I can sew the stars.

Daniel that's a good idea to use old shirts.

    The fabric
The fabric is often better than fabric store fabric, sold for making quilts. I do inspect carefully for wear or stains or any damage. Some shirts sold in thrift stores are excess from clothing sellers, and never been worn. The fabrics can be very nice, but the color choices are catch as catch can. Most thrift store clothing winds up being discarded, so I think it's a good thing to upcycle.

They should also always be 100% cotton. I starch and iron to make precise cuts and edges. Blends or polyester would break down under a hot iron. If there's no label, or if it's too thin, I don't use it.
