Not much meat on that cow is there - you'd be better off with the hind leg of a rook (or pigeon) :D

Cayuga, those protectors around the new trees are excellent! I wish we'd used those when we planted our small leafed lime trees. The blessed partridges decimated at least half of them, and now we need to get some replacements. The birds were imported from France, and were meant to be ''game birds'' for the hooray Henrys to blast with their guns. These ones were escapees.... they just love to help with the pruning and get a bit over zealous.
You've certainly come up with some jolly good postings :like:

Thanks Tetters. Bummer about losing half your lime trees. Here, it's the deer that'll do the most damage to young trees.
These saplings are American chestnuts.... It's part of a project to breed trees that are resident to the chestnut tree blight.
Hope you have enough small leafed limes for your purposes.

Sadly no, Cayuga - we will have to buy some more from the Woodland Trust, but THIS time will look for protectors that actually do the job ....actually, we'll have to get them soon, as they need to go in before the end of winter whilst they're dormant.

No Cayuga, not yet. I didn't get the new saplings either yet. Winter slipped away, and it's too late to plant them bare rooted now. Maybe next winter if all is well.
