Last year a pair of Olive backed sunbird build a nest on our rear porch roof and it caught the interest of my wife. She tried to take photos of them but the result was not satisfactory. This is the second time a nest was built in our property. The first nest was destroyed by monkeys that was before I installed the electric fence. Recently another pair came and occupy the nest to start a new family. From our understanding once the nest is build, it can be used up to seven times by other sunbirds before it is left to deteriorate. We learn this from a sunbird forum. Mama bird having a cosy time in the newly renovated nest. Yes before they occupy the nest they do carry out repairs. Keeping the egg warm. Yes we only saw one nestling. Feeding the young. Finally the young is ready and once out of the nest it is on its own.

I'll second that. I was fascinated by the Olive Backed Sunbird photographs. The nest looks so cosy and well constructed.
Amazing! We often have a Robins nest outside out kitchen window. Its always so much fun watching them raise their families!

That's interesting to me MG. Our hummers build their nests in evergreens, but make them from moss and line them with fluff from the Cottonwood trees. They come here to nest. Do yours have suspended nests?
Thank you all, I showed this post to my wife and she is elated. She was very patient waiting for the mama bird to come nest and feed the young. She waited for a long time to capture the perfect shot she wanted and had a sore neck after that for having to look up for a long while. Yes she is very happy for all your appreciation. Thank you
