I ordered a camera lead from an on-line supplier on 1st April. It wasn't expensive, less than £9. It was supposed to arrive within a week. I've not yet received it. I've messaged them through their website five times but with no response. There's no e-mail address listed or a telephone number on the website. I tried Barclaycard on-line to query the transaction, but it was too complicated, So I contacted Barclaycard by phone. Well, I got an automated voice with all the usual "Your balance is, (whatever), you can spend (whatever), you should pay, (whatever), try our app, press one to nine," anything, but let me speak to someone. Continually pressing the hash key eventually put me through to;- "That nice helpful Indian girl with the dog that barks, who works from home answering similar calls from countless different companies, but whose English is poor." Eventually she got me through to someone in England. (I can understand Scottish accents). I explained the situation and that I'd tried to sort it on-line, but after a lengthy, "yes, no, interlude," A pro-former came up that I could download, fill in answering all sorts of questions, attach receipts and post it to Barclaycard, all for something that cost less than nine sodding pounds! She saw my point and said as it was less than £10, she'd write it off and refund my money there and then and not to worry if the camera lead turns up. I thanked her, but afterwards I thought that Barclaycard could well afford it, considering they charge an obscene rate of interest to those people who can't afford to clear their balance each month.
Your patience and persistence is amazing. I so dislike getting the automated walk around. Last time I gave up after finally getting a person, because I’d have to go to the next agency to only walk through the whole rigmarole again. I decided to pretend I went to the casino (since I never do) and did not win. Life is short and I’d rather do something pleasant.
Actually I could have written the money off, given that it was a trivial amount, but sheer bloody mindedness made me pursue it. I've ordered another lead from elsewhere, should be here on Monday or Tuesday. I need it to download photos from the camera I bought last year. I'm presently using a camera I bought about twenty years ago. I won't have lost the original lead. The problem is I hang on to too much stuff, boxed away in the garage. I've a huge box with lots of leads, adaptors etc., that I've had for years. I got it out and checked through it, but it wasn't there. Here's me putting the box back in the garage.
Oh geez Riley. You made us laugh so hard with that commentary and pic. Oh my, the pic of you returning the box to its place. My side aches. That pic reminds me of the closing scenes of an Indiana Jones film. You know, the one with the covenant. But y’know mate— I have a box for that sort of kit too. I would be willing to bet that more men on here have such a box as well…secretly or not.
That made me laugh DHR. I just spent the morning rifling through my box of cables to find the one for my camera. I started to search for the other box in the storage room and gave up. I forgot to put a memory card in my SLR when my son and I walked to the falls two days ago and now I can't get the pictures off of the camera. Amazon here I come.
Riley that was worth a good giggle. Not just for men searching for cables … ladies too… I don’t even want to go there. Every cable has a different connect finding the correct fit is frustrating.. I don’t care how organized our cable haul collection is ….labeled or color coded… they never seem to stick to one system…bah hum bug….
The Good News The cable for my camera I ordered on-line three weeks ago with a promise of a five day delivery, has finally arrived! The bad news. It's the wrong cable! It's the one for charging the battery. Fortunately, Barclaycard has refunded my money and I've ordered another elsewhere.
Oh forsakes ! This would be hilarious if it weren’t so tragic. Honestly Riley, this sort of failed service really isn’t on.
Unfortunately, these ordeals are more and more common with the super big conglomerate businesses out there who just don't care, except to take someone's money. I have been trying since January to get a refund due my son, because my card did not work so he paid with his card.... Every single person I have talked to gave me a different song and dance about how to get a refund from this company (health insurance affiliate). We have been turned down every time because "we" did not do something right, even though THEY told us that is what we should do. I have sent them at least 5 copies of the proper reciept, which they claim is illegible--we have no trouble reading it at all. And it is not a piddly little amount. That is the short version, and I won't bore you with the rest. I hope you get the correct cable @Riley.
@Riley, at least you now have a spare battery charging cable in case one breaks or gets lost. I keep a couple spares handy: 1 by my bed, 1 in my purse, and 1 at my desk.
