Are you worried that you might catch anything when mowing close by the trees? because it won't affect you and the animals.

Absolutely.. yes it is a bit of a shock. C. grattii is contagious to animals and humans according to the CDC. It’s a bit concerning in the areas where my home is located in the Pacific Northwest of the US.

Humans and animals can become infected with C.gattii after inhaling dried yeast cells or spores in air. C. gattii travels through the airway and enters the lungs.

According to the CDC IT IS Resistant to current treatments.

INFO - Below from the Center for Disease Control. It’s clearly only located in Northern California , the PNW , in the US , including south western Canada.

    Life cycle of C. gattii
    C. gattii infections are not contagious. Yes … Humans and animals can become infected with C. gattii after inhaling dried yeast cells or spores in air. C. gattii travels through the airway and enters the lungs. The body’s temperature allows C. gattii to transform into its yeast form, and the cells grow thick outer layers to protect themselves. The yeasts then divide and multiply by budding. After infecting the lungs, C. gattii can travel through the bloodstream to infect other areas of the body, such as the central nervous system.

Oreti , Logan and Daniel….the things that we don’t need to worry about seems to be on the rise lately. Maybe I need to get a hazmat suit to mow the pastures around the trees until I figure out the forestry contact that will send out testers in our area.

Above video…It really works. I use larger wood chips they last for years no weeds. Till…..the gophers and moles dig up thru a spot under the mulch and open up all the weed seeds hiding under the soil. Then there are patches of weeds at each gopher/mole mound. It’s always something. Right !
