With the frequent torrential rains and high winds, most of our vegetable garden is gone. The second planting of lettuce--washed out. All but four of our tomato plants--washed out. Our young and tender plants just weren't strong enough to withstand standing in puddles and not snapping in the wind or just laying down in a puddle and drowning. Ah well, next season . . .
The only bright spot is the herbs, which were in pots and, being herbs, can withstand almost anything Mother Nature throws at them.

marlingardener watching the terrible storms on the news tornados and rain storms are off the chain. So sorry about your garden. More severe thunderstorms are expected today across central Texas. Stay safe. Sending blessings your way.

Aww that's such a shame @marlingardener , I'm so sorry it must be a heart breaking sight.
So long as you and the family are safe that's the priority.

So sorry to read that Marlingardener. Reading your earlier posts about planting had given me a great deal of optimism. Mother nature gives with one hand and sometimes takes back with the other:setc_088:

Oh Marlin, I am so sorry to hear this news. Does it make you want to grow toms in soil bags? I have tried that and it worked for me.

How did your potatos do with all that moisture?

Sjoerd, I haven't considered soil bags since now I'd just have a bag of rainwater! I fear the potatoes are rotting in the ground with all that moisture. Last I looked at the potato patch I was considering replanting with watercress.

Oh, that is sad. Fingers crossed for you.
You know, if you grow spuds in bags you can move them around…and they do not necessarily have to sit outside unprotected.

Boy oh boy MG. :-( from droughts to floods. You certainly are resilient. Potato bags and raised beds really help in the wet, but not in the dry. You will definitely figure it out.

So sorry for your garden losses. I guess resilience is the only recourse. Hang in there.

Thank you all for your concern--it helps ease the pain. We found raised beds become swimming pools, and ground-level gardens become mud puddles. Thankfully the last few days have been rain free and things are drying out. Husband may even get to mow today!
