Good Sunday morning all. Currently 3°C and clear.
I was such a busy girl yesterday, getting all kinds of jobs crossed off my list, including changing the furnace filter, fixing the leak and turning on the outside tap, cutting the grass, putting out the rain barrels, getting the golf cart running and out of storage, and up potting more tomatoes. I also got my portable water tank out and working and filled it up for watering the veggie garden. I got some extra perennials potted up for sale, and even had someone come buy a coffee table. Todays jobs include burning brush, dividing perennials and up potting more tomato plants.
Every year I think I need a bigger greenhouse, and then later decide that it is the perfect size for my own things. The problem happens when people ask me for tomato plants and then i end up planting WAY more than I need! This year I decided to plant extra to sell for a little bit of extra money to support my garden addiction. And yes, I am working alone and truth be told I like it that way. But I do like the help on the days I do grass. I like to have one person to do the small bits with the push mower and do the trimming as I have a lot of acreage to cover. Doing the grass wasn't part of my job until Covid hit, and now it seems to have 'stuck'. I have discovered that I enjoy cutting grass!
A bit of food prep and then I'm heading outside.
Have a great day all :)

Netty— I enjoy cutting grass as well. In fact, I cut people’s lawns when I was a youngster for pocket change so that I could take birds out. It was the old ladies that cost me the most time, with all the extra trimming and so forth. Haha.

Angus and I were up bright and early this morning. It is dawn now at about 4:45 AM. He starts to pace between 5:30 and 6:00 which is my alarm clock. The snow didn't materialize which was nice. He did his big sniff around on our walk and then watched patiently as I climbed up and threw down the remaining 30 or so rounds of pine. One more chuck to get everything to ground level, but I will take a break on that for the rest of the day.
It's too cool to put plants out today, so my plan is to work on organizing the greenhouse. It will be nice and warm in there :) I'll fill my milk cartons with soil for starting the squash. And then finish digging my trench for the potatoes. Then a movie and a quilt will be due.

Thanks to you Sjoerd! These trenches ( dug earlier as you taught me so the soil warms) have been a game changer for me. I also now know to plant early and late season spuds. My daughter is thrilled that she will be able to dig some potatoes when she comes early fall this year. The Dutch influence on the Canadian's potato patch has been immense my friend. :)

Mel— I’m chuffed that you are trying the method. I believe Marlin has tried it as well. You have special conditions over there. If you have success, it will not only be your daughter that will be thrilled, I can tell you that.:)
You make me feel all proud. Cheers.

Good Monday morning all. Currently 11°C and overcast. Weatherman says rain today, and that will be good because it will fill my rain barrels.
Another busy day in the yard yesterday ... more tomatoes potted up, some perennials divided, and a bunch of the brush burned as well.
Up bright and early for work. I never know what to expect on a Monday, but I will say that there is never a shortage of things to do!
Have a great day all :)

We woke up to a chilly -7 this morning. It will warm quickly once the sun reaches our home. We are in shade at the house until about 10 am.

The Hummingbirds arrived about three days ago. I checked on the ruckus by the feeder and saw the problem.

The feeder was a slushy of ice. A quick rinse and warmer replacement was in order. They are happy now. :)

My first dandelions showed up yesterday. They are wishing they waited. I'm glad that I waiting a few days to plant anything.

Today is some Stew with my tea this morning while the world warms up, and then starting squash seeds indoors and getting ready for a long town day tomorrow.

Mel— Reading your posts are always so interesting. Ice-slush for hummingbirds. Mate, that's exotic!
Good luck with planting those seeds.

Good Tuesday morning all. Currently 14°C and overcast.
I've somehow hurt my thumb again. I think its from dragging branches by myself at work yesterday. Hopefully its feeling better soon.
In the meantime, not sure exactly what I'll be able to accomplish at work thumbless, but I'll have to take it easy for a day or 2.
Have a great day all :)

Happy Tuesday! (it looks like I was posting yesterday but I left and never sent)

a better start to the week for sure! I was so busy Saturday, it was crazy but I got quite a bit done, sadly it was raining all day, as well as sunday, in fact it was raining most of yesterday too and looks about the same today. I really hope the sun comes out soon, but also afraid to as I just mowed my lawn on Friday and i'm afraid it will just spring back up.

Good Wednesday morning all. Currently 11°C and overcast. But the birds are all singing, so it seems cheerful out if that makes sense haha
I have the day off today. I have an appointment, and then I'm heading over to help a friend with some yard work. It will be fun working outside WITH someone for a change! This afternoon I hope to pot up that last 7 varieties of tomatoes and maybe some plant divisions for my plant sale.
    Never a dull moment :)
