Sone random stuff around my garden and yard now. I still have a LOT of work to do in the back yard / rose garden / duck yard. Meanwhile, some old yellow tall bearded irises are blooming. I don't know the variety. They came with the house. There's a massive rhodie in there too. These are some historic bearded iris varieties. Nicely fragrant, like candy. Not as frilly and showy as the modern ones. I started thinning apples and pears. Gravenstein, before. After. I walk around with kitchen shears, snipping off the extra fruits. This is Lattarula fig, also known as White Marseilles. It's the earliest I've seen it have such large developing figs. All of the squash seedlings are planted now. I've been working on the third main branch of the drip irrigation system. I think the emitters need replacing. I replaced the main line, and water flows through it. But the emitters aren't flowing. I want to connect it to the squash plants. The less water I have to carry, the better.
Looking good Daniel We have a fig in a large pot. I tried to move it last year. No chance, it's rooted to the ground now
Daniel— your things are all looking so good already. You are a bit ahead of us. I can’t wait to see your fruit and veg when they are further along. Well done so far.
It's been raining heavily, so difficult to do some garden projects. But - I had a contractor install a railing on the new concrete "deck" (what's it called if it's not wood?) Found some nice containers at Winco for a good price, and planted marigolds. The Japanese maples at the end of the back yard / duck yard put on a lot of growth. Maybe it's because I cleaned out the duck pond and poured a bucket of the stinky water around each tree? The overwintered geraniums are all growing nicely, but no new blooms yet.
Gorgeous !! @Daniel W I would call it a "Patio" and I really like that !! It's a very modern style. What kind of Geranium is that? I've never grown them but my Great Aunt Alice was a geranium Guru. She overwintered hers on an unheated porch and they always bloomed prolificly.
AnnieKay, thank you. I'm very pleased with it. I wanted to get rid of the old rotting deck for many years. The cable railing really lets you look through and view the scenery. It's also a wildfire mitigation situation, get rid of flammable things attached to the house and create a non-flammable zone. I had a great aunt Alice too . She grew roses, starting them by cutting stems, sticking them into the soil, and covering with a Mason jar for humidity. That geranium is "Mrs. Pollack". It dates from 1858, a very old variety. I've had it twentyfour years. I overwinter it in the garage, dried out.
Fantastic plant combos and so many different varieties of everything but the kitchen sink. So inspiring . Love the new cement patio all dress up in gowns of colorful flowers and a variety of colorful foliage thruout the garden beds. Good Job. And Rufus is keeping his eye out for any snacks.
