Pac— moving foto’s. Such nice textures and colours. Enjoyable to look at. You must enjoy pottering-around your planted spaces.

@Sjoerd you got it color, texture, height … thanx for the nice compliment. The garden is always a work in progress much like myself.:chuckle:

@Anniekay.. your colorful display of leaves proves just how important is it to include plants along with shrubs and trees with interesting leaf color. The plants and shrubs in your garden are the bones of the winter garden.
I recognize them all and know that they are relatively young plantings , in a few years they will grow to a stately size posing for another photo op or two . :smt026

Pac— You are most welcome…credit where credit is due, right.
So, you are a work in progress, eh? You must truly be a garden girl.
Notice I did NOT say you were a real piece-of-work. :D

We are all Realgardner’s . I’m declaring ‘realgardner’ as new real word.. it’s real reality in our own world of reality in which we tease the earth to grow plants that bring rewards , flowers and confidence with every step and decision we make every day.

A couple of textured hosta’s with variegated leaf color. Slugs don’t like the tiny hairs on textured hosta leaves and generally leave them alone. IMG_9844.jpeg IMG_9843.jpeg

Super pics everyone, great thread Pac..
I compiled an album of foliage shape ,size, pattern and colours a couple of years ago just as a personal reference....find the topic so fascinating.

I will take some pics tomorrow and add them here.

@Oreti So nice to see close ups of the leaf colors used in your garden. I recognize so many they seem so familiar, many used in my garden. Can you name them common name or scientific name either or is OK. It seems our garden growing zones are similar in many ways. We have the option to grow a very wide variety of plants that not many have or even explore that option.

I am especially fond the use of your acer palmatum’s just gorgeous. They are a good choice to exhibit small tree specimens as an explanation point !!! - literally in the garden which are guiding the eye across the different forms and colors displayed. A vision well portrayed for garden buffs and viewer’s alike. :smt023:setc_005:

Oreti very nice display of a wide variety of leafs . Your plant collection shows some important qualities to consider. Purchase what you like is a good way to follow your own journey. Planting them in the garden where ever you find a good place to fit the plant requirements is a good course to follow. I am sure like you that I have struggled at times finding just the right spot. Most plants always seem to shine no matter what conditions are doled out as long as they are in the right growing zone.:smt023

    Thanks @Sjoerd .

Oh @Pacnorwest ......that's it!!!!!! My shamefully tatty specimen is Ophiopogon Black Mondo!!!! I do have a large healthy clump of it but I can't safely negotiate my way round the pathway to photograph it. Last year I attempted to take small divisions from it.....and the above is one of them. Thanks for the name reminder.:D
