You got it !! @Pacnorwest it's a Crepe Mrytle. I'm hoping that it will eventually camophlage the security light pole !!.
They are super easy to grow too, and so long as they are lightly pruned when dormant, you get lots of flowers for about 8 weeks every year.
Luv crepe myrtles in the PNW Lagerstroemia don’t do much till the end of July - early August in our zone. Generally crepe myrtles were considered not cold hardy for our growing zone. Until in the 1970’s Ted Van Veen, owner of Van Veen Rhododendron Nursery in southeastern Portland, learned of the crape myrtle breeding program at the United States National Arboretum in Washington, DC. Intrigued by the prospect of new hybrids with superior cold hardiness and greater disease resistance than the Lagerstroemia indica selections then available, Van Veen hoped to test them in Portland, at what he perceived as cold hardiness in the PNW. Two of those numbered cultivars were later named (‘Muskogee’ and ‘Natchez’) and released by the National Arboretum—the first crape myrtle hybrids from their breeding program. Since that time, they have become two of the most popular and widely planted crape myrtles in the United States, and are now planted around the world. Now these beauties can grow in our zone cold resistant and do well every year. I have planted both cultivars in my garden and they have done very well thru winter’s coldest weather and the heat of summer.
I have Muskogee and Natchez in my front yard . Lilac Muskogee and White Natchez. The Natchez blooms longer and has bigger blooms than the Muskogee. Neither are in full bloom yet. The one in the pic is a new purple variety which gets purplerrrr the more sun it gets !!
