Just a few random scenes around the lottie: Clematis ‘Mrs. Cholmondeley’ An overview of a portion of the veg garden: When we sit on tye bench in front of the garden house for a moment of shady reflection, this is what see: The Weigelia is blooming its heart out: …a closer look: Soloman’s Seal: The runners are chowing colour: With all this cold wind we had to apply the clippies to keep the climbers in place: Finally, a small harvest at the end of a wettish workday. The yields are still small, but there was enough mange tout to freeze-in and we ate more shortcake and little breakfast portions. We are eying the Swiss chard for their first harvest. Perhaps in a few days. Welp, in anticipation of coming harvests we defrosted the freezer. Let the harvesting begin.
love the pictures! I have a Weigelia in town and I've always wanted to get a cutting to see if I could get it to root so I can have such a beautiful bush like that. But I won't. All those are so pretty though. I love the variety!
Great harvest and nice tour of the garden area. When’s dinner? I’ll bring the drinks. How bout aperitif -Orange, Rosemary and Rubarb.
Annie— Ta, I can hardly wait. Shaw— thanks, I am glad you liked those. That old bush really is a good one that consistently gives a good showing very spring and again later. I will prune it back very hard after the blooming. Pac— cheers. I like your ideas for din-din.
Isn't it odd: Your North winds stopped and here in North America, the North wind is streaming down from the Arctic making it much cooler here than normal !!
All this smokescreen about global warming might be covering up that we're still in an ice age. We can put up with it being hot, might be hard to cope with and has it's problems with drought and cropping etc. but if all of Northern Europe, Canada and half of America was covered in ice then it would bring slightly more problems I think
Right now there are volcanic erruptions happening all over the world. I read that the earth's axis has moved and it's creeping toward Russia. I think Gaea is out for revenge !! I don't think we are in an ice age because ice is melting. The whole side of a mountain with a glaicier on it collapsed onto Blatten in the Swiss Alps. I think we are in a wave of heating due to that earth axis shiting and it's causing the earth's mantle to do like water in a tipped glass: Rise to the surface. Just my brain trying to make sense out of things.
I heard on the news the other day that Mount Saint Helen’s in Washington state a live volcano was burping last winter . A cue that news reporters use and call it when cold water from snow and ice gets into the hot lava deep in the volcano and sends up smoke from a rising bubble in the center of the mountain where it blew in the 1980’s. Also recently I have felt several small earthquakes. I have earthquake insurance due to the fault off the coast of Oregon. It shook the ceiling beams & a drop of a 1/2” was noted in the corner ceiling area a few years ago. 2024 last Oct… a 6.1 quake was off the coast of Oregon. I felt it and was startled….thinking to myself…was that a quake again? The news verified it was a quake. Originally lived in California and in 1972 experienced the earthquake 7.4 on the rector scale. That will rattle your cage and even make you nauseated. Horrible feeling you just have to ride it out. Literally feels like your surfing the ground while trying to stay standing. May 2025
And out in the Ocean, off British Columbia the seafloor is bulging where an under sea volcano is sending very mild tremors out. I read they tracked 1000 quakes in ONE day !! The only tremor I ever was in was in Massachusetts. In fifth grade I was on the fifth floor of a wood school house built in 1838. The flag started waving, the rings and strings on the shades swayed back and forth. Everyone's eyes got big but nobody said a word. Then they announced over the loud speaker that we had a tremor. This is very, very rare for New England !! I would never live in earthquake zones. You can run from hurricanes but not from earthquakes.
I think you can build in areas where there are no volcanos, earthquakes , hurricanes, or tornados. Could also be a safe bet to live where flooding is not an issue. But… Mother Nature always seems to have a mind of her own, especially with climate change. We weren’t in an earthquake zone or fire zone when we moved here. Or any other weather threats. Yet we have experienced tornados, occasionally , firestorm evacuation, and ice storm damaged the roof and lost power for 2 weeks. Nothing bothered the garden thru all the winter weather wreckage.
