What have you done today in the Garden?

Yes, that was me. I have some marigolds that I planted by my squash, coming up but they aren't that big. Those two must have been "magically" moved there (by the ghost of the garden) and they liked the bone meal I put down for the root vegetables. Thanks for letting me know!

I remember the first year I moved to Georgia. On Thanksgiving day I called back home (Pacific NW Washington) while I walked my dog. I was in shorts and a t-shirt but it was raining and cold in Washington. I thought it was great, until I actually had to go through my first southern summer, but Texas was even worse. We were in SE Georgia in Saint Marys. Do you know where that is? Great town for kids, every holiday there was something for kids.

Your gardens look very nice, Columbia. Is that a wild foxglove? I miss those. We walked past a hillside of them on our way to the bus when I was in Jr High school. I loved how they'd be leaning one way in the morning and another when we got off the bus after school, as they followed the sun.

Thanks for your kind words Oreti. I hope your brother has a good day so you can have a good visit. I know I looked forward to the good days, with my mom but good or not so good I enjoyed visiting her.

 

Nothing today, just off out to go into our other nearby city as we have Dental Apps. So will also have a mooch around the great Farmer's Market there and find some where to have lunch.

Yes, St. Mary's is right on the Florida line above Fernandina Beach along the east coast. I've been there a few times. It's cooler there since it's close to the Ocean, hotter and more humid here since I'm in Middle Way down S. Georgia.

It's still cooler here than Miami !! Much cooler

I got out as soon as the grass dried (it's rained twice a day, every day since last thursday) to get my way over due grass cutting done. I got all I could get with the rider, still have weedeating and places to get where only my 21" mower can fit.
After I cleaned the rider and put it up I picked blackberries and blueberries. Froze the blackberries. Checked my eggplant, tomorrow there's a couple might be ready to harvest. The winter squash is ripening, checked that, and spun my composter. That's enough for today !!

 

More strawberry harvesting. Cleaned reeds out of the sloot. Fed all the toms with comfrey tea. Filled up extra bottles of the “tea”. Weeding and rose deadheading.

 

Been heat treating some leafmold to kill off any Sciarid fly eggs.



It needs to be over 45C for an hour or so. The sun heats it above 50C very quickly.

 

I found more tomato plants along the ditchwork, near my dog houses. I have no idea where they came from. A friend is coming to get some tomorrow.

I found wild foxgloves in my horse pasture this morning. I went and pulled them out because I read they are toxic for horses and livestock.

I was out trying to clean up a lot of weeds where I couldn't take my neighbor's mower the other day.

 

There's quite a bit of weeding that needs doing, particularly the leaves of the dozens of bluebells, which will go slushy otherwise and the grass needs cutting. But this morning I had a few domestic chores to do, so there was no chance. There's even less chance after lunch, as there's tennis and the first day of the U S Open Golf Championship on the TV.

You have to get your priorities right. So it can wait until tomorrow morning.

What was strange, was that I hadn't ordered them. Nor have I been charged for them.
I buy a lot of stuff on eBay, it had the same sort of address label on it and it was addressed to me.
I guess someone somewhere had pressed the wrong key.

 

@Doghouse Riley Do you suppose your wife or the kids may have bought the secateurs for you for Fathers Day?

Last of the early Strawberries today, taken the plants out of the polytunnel to let them rest for the rest of the year.

I could not garden without it. Haha. That may be a bit of an exaggeration but I do use quite a bit of it.

Today we made a new batch of comfrey Tea today cutting the plants way back for a second time so far.
We weeded the onions and leeks. More rose deadheading. We picked more Nairobi peas and processed them this evening. Our tom patch at the neighbours got schoffeled.
