Ummmm, 89 is 10° cooler for this time of year. We normally average a high of 98 from March through September . This year is much cooler than normal and it almost makes me want to move out of zone 9a into 8a where these temps are normal.

I've been through Asheville but only stopped for gas and food. It's way hilly there.

Hope your grandsons stay safe and there's no poison ivy burning. Last time we had wildfires the poor firefighters got covered in poison ivy just from the oils being in the air and getting on their skin. Send Calamine !!.o_O

It hasn't been bad here. Just about ideal, really.

Things are growing nicely. I am using the drip system but I think it's ok to miss a day or two.

It looks like wildfire season has started in other parts of the Pacific NW. I think in the dryer areas, East of the Cascades. Here is the map.

I don't know if the US government sites are being updated, so the accuracy is ?

Summers have turned to a frightening time of year for us. 2017 Eagle Creek fire we were evacuated, but were spared the flames. Friends fought fires from their homes along side firefighters. Really a nightmare today. And the sad part is it's often vandalism or arsen.
Thank you for wishing my grandsons well. I admire their willingness to go. One is a father of 3. Would it be wrong of me to wish he breaks his arm or something so he can't go? I mean...just saying.

Oh gosh no it wouldn't be wrong @Columbiariver !!! Very worrying for all .
Your grandsons are obviously very caring and dedicated young men ,I wish them safekeeping and my unrelenting gratitude for all their brave and extremely gruelling work.

Another lovely day for our day out and about.
Last night was very muggy and despite having all our upstairs windows open wide it a difficult sleep.

I wouldn't blame you at all.

I've done my best to reduce wildfire risks, with metal roof, cement-board siding, nonflammable insulation, removing nearby fir trees and conifer shrubs, removing flammable mulches from around the house and replacing wood / composite decking with cement patio & sidewalk. Still, no measures will be 100%. My neighbor's 100 foot tall evergreen trees are only about 50 feet from my house, for one thing. It makes me nervous.

So kind of you to say @Oreti I appreciate that very much

@Daniel W we've done everything the fire department has recommended. Would love to have a metal roof, but we don't yet. What we do have is tremendous water pressure and many outdoor water spickets and hoses. We won't leave the next time we're evacuated. We'll protect our home and property of 40 years. We have lots of rather gnarly friends up here. Quite a rag tag bunch. We're all a bit stubborn and lack fear of protecting our homes. You've been very wise in your upgrades.

Already 87°f @ noon time. Forecast says 72 low and 86 high. Very high humidity and , again, they say it will rain in 40 minutes. Rain missed us the last couple days so, ...Who Knows !! :p

Same here @Anniekay , still very warm here at nearly 6pm, and likewise we've been forecast heavy rain to arrive in a couple of hours time too......but will we actually get any this time???? It felt very humid and oppressive being out and about and travelling on public transport today.
