I couldn't do any schoffelen @Sjoerd because my garden was weeded yesterday morning, though, I'm sure there will be some to get rid of tomorrow !! :) It was so muggy most of the day that all I did was spin my new composter every time I walked Rags. She now thinks it's evil and growls at it when it spins. :smt005

One of the espalier apple trees has a guest. I am staying away from them.

Got into the back garden this morning.

    Dead-headed the roses.

Pruned unwanted side shoots from the wisterias, then dug out grass from the rockery, a "hands and knees job."

Then got into the borders, stripping dead bluebell foliage and digging out weeds. Another, "hands and knees job".

Did the same with all the dead bamboo leaves. Well.. most of 'em

Then adjusted the bamboo restraints. three lateral wires at different heights between fence posts, stops it flopping over, but new growth gets outside these wires. Just a case of undoing it at one end and wrapping it around the lot again, to capture it all.

    Mowed the lawn.

Then used my garden vac to collect any debris.
Gave everything a good water, although we might get some rain.

Did a bit of patching of the bare bits in the lawn after running a serrated knife down between the lawn and the brick edging, which gives me several bits of grass with a root I can force into the soil. It's still recovering.
It only took me four hours!
Then made lunch and a coffee.
Time to watch golf and tennis on TV.

Had a wander round this afternoon, making a mental note of what still needs doing.

Some rhodos to dead-head. The tortoise shell one will last a week or two yet.

There's a lot of seed pods on this wisteria that need pruning off.

The camellia need a trim, as does the tops of the quinces along the side fence.

I think this little azalea has had it. It's struggled for a couple of years. There are some tiny leaves on it.

But I've a spare one. I bought it to share, "sentry duty" by the front door, but it flowered at the same time as the other one, so "didn't see service."

Our mimosa is going to be really tall, I'll have to keep an eye on it. I took a couple of feet off the top earlier in the year,

The dahlias are doing well and need no supports yet.

The outside of the tea-house need a wash down.

I gave my two jukeboxes a good run out, an hour each. It keeps their four motors, gear boxes and leaf switches working. It wouldn't bother the neighbours on a Friday morning.

@Columbiariver , to reduce image size, I post it on my fb page in an album, then save it back to my computer. I am not much good on the photo software, and that is the easiest way to do I know of.

I am down to about 1/2 of those free tomato plants left. Another friend wants some, but not sure how I will get them to her at the moment. (I no longer drive due to disability). Another friend who lives in another state also found volunteer tomato plants in his yard.

It has been raining off and on all day, and the sun just came back out. I need to go pick raspberries.

I had friends bugging me to join facebook. I lasted maybe three or four days before getting out of that mad house. Really ? Posting that you're sitting on your porch drinking a beer ? Who finds that to be interesting or informative ? Who ?.

Most boringest posts I've ever had the misfortune to have read !!

My Bride gave me a haircut. We cleared the edge of the short canal. There was serious stinging nettle, bindweed and ground elder. My hands, forearms and one ankle are feeling electric in places.

Pulled a bit more reed out of the canal. Harvested more strawbs and peas. The beetroot and broad beans are coming along.
The runner beans are full in bloom now with their orangy-red blossoms:

We harvested some snijbiet (Swiss chard) for a neighbour. When the heat subsides we will harvest for ourselves.

The new strawb plant sort has produced its first strawberry. There had to be a tasting. Here it is. It is a type called, ‘Falco’.
    IMG_0652.jpeg

It was sweet with a noticeable fresh quality. Another way of saying it was very slightly sour.

We are home now, showered and are washing clothes. Very hot and humid today.

I harvested my red onions, finally. Not all had fallen over or even had yellowing leaves, but I noticed a couple had rotted. I planted these red onions in early January. No pics yet as I have them in a cool dark place curing. I am going to try stringing them once they have dried sufficiently. I only had two big ones but, being a one woman family (and a dog who can't have onions) I would rather have small onions. I

I have two watermelons developing and my winter squash keeps getting riper every day.

Oh and I planted some brown speckled beans for a summer cover crop a couple days ago. No idea what type they are. They were my roommates who moved to her own place last November. They were in a sealed jar in the cupboard and were in there at least 3 years, maybe 4 . They are sprouting !!
:smt044. I didn't do a thing to them, just made furrows, threw them in and raked 'em over. They're not going to be eaten, probably. I'll see what they taste like but brown spotted beans do not "look" appetizing to me !!
