I watched a documentary called " the god plant" on Thursday. We live among miraculous plants that can heal us and yet we listen to the big $ pharma for our medicine. Something is not quite right.
Not much of a movie watcher . I did recently watch Michael Clayton staring George Clooney. Also a very interesting Movie with land issues - water and oil contamination still relevant today , The Two Jake’s with Jack Nicklelson and Harvey Kietel.
Last movie I saw was Hannibal because I like that stuff. Silence of the Lambs before that and in 1973 I saw The Exorcist at a movie theatre before that. Yes, I can go decades without ever watching a movie !!
Love going to the Cinema. A friend and I go very regularly at least once a month ...something even more!! Amazingly last year there wasn't much that interested us so we only saw a few . Ferrari, Back to Black, One love and The Apprentice. My youngest son told me the lack of films hitting the Cinemas last year was due to the 2023 Hollywood Strike that involved writers and actors. He is a Lead Compositor and has worked on many blockbuster movies but that period was very disruptive to all areas of the industry. Thankfully job losses were kept to a minimum where he works in London and being a 'Lead' his job was safe. I haven't yet been this year and missed the Bob Dylan movie A Complete Unknown which was released in January (surgery recovery was in a very early stage). Had planned to go and see The Salt Path last week as I thought I would now be able to sit still for a couple of hours but had to cancel as friend was unwell. Hopefully we might still get to see it in a few weeks time.
Oh @Anniekay no. You brave thing I get too scared So nice that you get to the theater @Oreti . I rarely go because we can see just about anything from home now. But I miss the excitement of seeing a new release with other people in the theaters. I remember when star wars came out and waiting in line to see it. I'm anticipating seeing Bob Dylan movie as well. Yes I know all eventually can been seen at home now @Columbiariver , but imo the Big, big screen and the brilliant sound systems at our super modern and up to date Cinema takes a lot of beating . Hubs and I very rarely watch tv, early morning and evening news is about it really. And he certainly isn't a film person either.....hence I go with friends.
I noticed "A Royal Date For Christmas" is available on Netflix. Danica McKellar, has had that many Christmas romances, many of them "Royal," you'd have thought by the age of fifty, she would have learned her lesson by now. I've always considered that her best film was from where this came. Even then, in 2012, she was ten years older than her co-star. The recording, on an LP played on an old-fashioned unamplified record player, with a steel needle, is by "Terri and the Carlas" an entirely fictitious group. But I like it. I downloaded it. There is at least one version on YouTube without the film soundtrack.
Finally got to see the Salt Path yesterday. The backdrop/ scenery was, as I had thought it would be, amazing!! Brought back many happy memories as I had spent most of my childhood holidays in the area and also many camping holidays with our own brood too. It portrayed the love, strength and utter devotion of the couple to support each other during such tough times that hopefully none of us will have to endure ...and all happening at the same point in time. Losing their home through a bad investment, husband diagnosis of a terminal illness and having to ' beg' for pennies when they finally withdraw their last £1: 38p from their account. It's a true story and based on the account of the events by the wife . A book is also available too.
I watched the other day, "I Love Trouble" a 1948 film noir starring Franchot Tone and Janet Blair, on the "Talking Pictures" channel. Well written and acted. Now Voyager - staring Betty Davis ,1942. One of her greatest performances. In 2007 ‘Now Voyager’ was selected for preservation in the US national film registry by the Library of Congress as being culturally , historically, or aesthetically significant. The film ranks number 23 on the SFI’s 100 Passions - a list of top love stories in American cinema. I never get tired of her Movies. One of the greatest actresses in our generation.
Have to wait for The Salt Path to be released on 4k disk, i like to follow Gillian Anderson because she's a great actor,but the book was written by the wife which she might have got the time and details of the events a bit wrong but i would watch it anyway.
There is a question over the exact details of the film and Raynor has released a statement explaining things and claims have been made that the Observer article is highly misleading. Legal action against the paper is being taken. The movie is called a ' faithful adaptation of the book '. As with every ' true life' book / film you have to accept certain things added for dramatic effect. Whatever....no doubt they had a very tough time ...and none of this makes a difference to the story that unfolds in the film which is still very moving and beautifully portray by the actors and scriptwriters etc.
Yes you're right, i don't take much notice if i like a film I'll watch it. Did watch this on TV but not the same as on a 4K disc.
Saw that when it came out in 2019, great film. Do you ever go to the cinema @Logan , I know that you like films. We have all the techie bits and big screen, sound systems here at home.....but still nothing really ,imo that is of course, beats a good modern cinema experience.
