We left early this morning to avoid travelling in the peak heat times today. Boy was it still hot though!! We had planned to get back home a bit earlier too but in the spur of the moment we stopped off at our little local town to do a grocery shop ...and it proved a good idea as not many other silly people had the same idea.So quite pleasant really. Getting cooler over the weekend but then temps gradually rising again as the week progresses. Still no sight of any rain, at the moment, for at least the next fortnight. I feel so mean planting out in such heat and into baked rock hard borders. Definitely a case of the survival of the fittest.
One word here Cold… in the 40’s F. Strange for the first day of summer. Usually by now soil temps are warm enough to plant outside. My soil thermoter was still 45F.

When it gets over 90 degrees F, tomatoes go into survival mode and stop producing fruit in order to survive. The shade barriers come in different amounts of sun they block by %. I have had plants completely shut down when it got super hot. As the temps cool down, they will start producing again, but sometimes its too late
