Netty— thanks for that explanation. It seems like a nice and helpful custom.
    Stay cool.

We will head out to the lottie later on this afternoon.

The past few days, we've been doing some "Spring" cleaning. This time last year, we rushed like crazy to prepare the inlaws house for sale. We stored too many items in an unused bedroom, to worry about "later". Also to think about, "do we really want this or not?" Well, "later" is now.

We decided to get new flooring in a couple of rooms. Mostly to brighten the rooms, and easy cleaning. The old dark bamboo stained floor is difficult for aging eyes. But where to move the furniture for that process?

So, we took two carloads of stuff from the storage room to Goodwill. We actually gained a nice, very tidy linen closet now, which we hadn't planned on. I tore apart a gigantic, hated MDF cabinet - still off-gassing after 15 years- that was used before now for linens (they all got washed), and loaded it into the pickup truck to go to landfill. Another big cabinet will get the same. Some good condition large furniture went to free-cycle so I didn't have to haul it. More is in a freecycle ad.

There are still a few boxes of mostly useless papers to go through. I hate doing that but started again anyway. When it's done, there will be a new, clean, bright, tidy hobby room, a de-cluttered bedroom, and a storage room with minimal stuff.

Not much in garden the past few days.

Good Monday morning all. Currently 24°C at 4:45am. Its going to be another hot one!
I think the hardest part of getting ready for work on Mondays this time of year is putting socks on. All weekend I walk barefoot, but for work I wear socks and workboots. Especially hard on these hot days. Hopefully I make it through the day, temps are going to feel in the mid 40's today. I'm very thankful that I had the pool filled!
Have a great day all :)

Good Tuesday morning all. Currently 25°C at 4:30 am. Its going to be another hot one!
Yesterday I left work early due to the heat. At noon the temperature felt like 45°C, not ideal temperatures for working outside.
Todays temps will be almost as high, and so it may be another early day. I'll get done what I can early.
My pools temperature was up to 27°C yesterday! Almost not refreshing any more, but the breeze made it ok.
Have a great day all :)

Netty, so sorry to hear of you suffering in the heat. Try dampening a washcloth or small towel in ice water and placing that on the back of your neck, kind of like a bandana. It helps, if only temporarily.
Today the outside work is simply watering some plants and feeding the wild birds. They have been hitting the feeders hard lately, and the twice weekly filling of the feeders is now thrice weekly. Of course, the hens are getting their food and water supply taken care of daily. Caring for the animals is becoming a full time job!
Hope you all stay comfortable today!

Another Spring Cleaning / Decluttering day. The last too-big cabinet wound up going to landfill. I would have preferred to find someone to upcycled it, some good wood there, but it's too difficult around here. Also the gigantic MDF cabinet. Sorted through and mostly disposed of three boxes of papers, three more remaining. Mostly recycle, some shred. Moved a buffet from the now near-emptied family room (it echoes now) to the storage room. Found a recipient to free-cycle a nice, solid wood futon frame and futon. Also, more stuff went to trash or recycle. Making another Goodwill pile.

This house is finally shaping up inside. I used to watch "Hoarders" which this was nothing remotely like, but sometimes it shocked me into cleaning and getting rid of stuff instead of keeping stuff.

Next, a couple of big boxes of family memorabilia, mostly photos, that nobody wants. I feel guilty throwing them away, but what else to do with them? They are mostly not even my memories.

When the last things are handled, that completes the big move we started last year with cleaning out the in-law house, downsizing, losing weight, etc. It's a good feeling.

Soon we will have a day-trip to the ocean shore and beaches, Oregon coast. It will be a change of pace.

Good Wednesday morning all. Currently 21°C and clear. It was much better for sleeping last night, and I actually needed a light blanket. Its still going to be hot today, but not as bad as the last 2 days have been. I have been enjoying the pool the past couple days.
Off to work, where focus has been on keeping cool and keeping things watered. Today its going to be a mostly grass cutting day. I had the blades on the Hustler sharpened yesterday so the cut should be nice. Inching closer to the weekend :)

@Netty it's a shame to be where we are, concerned about heat and lack of rain. We've been fortunate here this year with a rainy June. I'm playing like it's a turning point and we're headed back to normal now. Whatever keeps us going is what works
    Your pool sounds divine

I worked at the food bank today. I'm always in a good mood on Wednesday These are my people I guess

I've been busy canning meals during our rain this week. I've done chicken and corned beef hash. Now I'm ready to do some vegetable beef soup. We haven't done this type of canning for years. It helps in many ways. Cuts food costs because I use discounted but good quality meats to start with (not easy to come by, a little goes a long way). I can control food quality, organic or not, etc. But the most beneficial ATM is that its a boredom buster. Don't get me wrong I enjoy being retired, but I'm bored out of my mind if I'm not busy. I'm so thankful my body is cooperating with me this summer. It's not always been this way. So that's what I'm doing recently

Me too !! I have to have stuff to do !! I go on Thursday morning to buy meat because they cut prices then since new stuff comes in to be put out on Friday. I got discounted stew meat which they have every week in summer. (Most people aren't making stew during hot weather.) I make a big batch of beef stew with carrots, onions potatoes and celery then freeze individual portions for use when it does get cold.

Good Thursday morning all. Currently 19°C and overcast with a nice breeze. Weatherman says the rain will start within 3 hours. I have some inside work today, but then I want to head to Home Depot and pick up some flooring for my laundry room and bathroom. The fellow that I want to do the work is finally available to come install so I want to have everything ready.
This project was something DH and I wanted to do last winter, so I'll be glad to have it done.
Have a great day all :)

@marlingardener what types of birds do you have right now? The are the most delightful things. When I wake up too early in the morning I just lay and wait for the Robin's to start their song. Later in the day the evening grossbeaks start their glorious song.
We gave up our chickens last year. I miss them. But I'm not good at getting outside once the freezing weather starts so it was my husband's call. It was wise. We are making due.

Good Friday morning all and TGIF!! Currently 15°C and overcast. Rain is in the forecast today.
I picked up my flooring yesterday, and then the contractor called and said he couldn't make it out. Very disappointing, but I hope to re-schedule with him today. I really want to get this job done!
Off to work, where I think its an inside day and hopefully an early one.
Have a great day all :)

columbiariver, we have so many birds! I'll try to remember several--whitewing doves, Northern cardinals, chickadees, red wing blackbirds, mockingbirds, red bellied woodpeckers, and hummingbirds. I think that's all.
I had a touch of the flu the last two days. What a ghastly sickness! But, I'm back now and rip, roarin' ready to go!

Happy Saturday. :) We've had a long stretch of hospital visits and trips to a few cities for Hubby these last eight weeks, so everything has been fit in where and when it can be. The rain this last week and staying close to Hubby has allowed me to take care of some inside chores. I made Haskap, Raspberry, Strawberry and Mint Apple jams and jellies from the freezer. There is room for more berries in the freezer now. :)

I harvested the last of the spinach and sorted through the remaining onions from last years garden. Twenty onions are still in the fridge crisper, but the softies were turned into a large pot of spaghetti sauce yesterday that will be finished today and CANNED ( poke poke @Netty - first time for me :) You've inspired me my friend. ) I have a few "onion softies" left today that I will turn into Spinach and Feta Crustless pies. One for us and one for my neighbour.

The spouting onions were planted last month and are beginning to form flowers. This will be my third year of trying to grow onion seed...the deer love to eat them. I think I have the deer foiled this year.

And today is also Angus' dog food day. He loves to "help" on these days and pays close attention. ( aka....very underfoot in the kitchen hahaha. I now move one of his beds into the kitchen and he sets up shop there and supervises....and taste tests. Very important job.)

I'm hoping to get outside this afternoon and take care of a few very essential garden things.

    Have a nice weekend everyone.
