I removed 4 tomato plants that were done for due to heat. I still have a baby boomer cherry tomato and a heatmaster growing. I put all the plants into the compost pile and when it's shady, late afternoon, I will chop the plants up small to help them rot down faster.

Also, when it's shady later I need to prune my thornless blackberry plants and my mulberry bush.

The beans I planted are supposed to be the ones that are green and shaped like ...well...a bean :) I bought them at a nursery and by now forgot what they are. (see: post on memory loss). I will try again next year after learning more about them. Did zero research before I planted them. In the meantime I will pick your brain. With your help I will be able to invest in some baskets too.:like:

    Jersey— oké, I see.
Right then, we can speak about this again next year before planting time if you want. You should have some to eat. I can’t do without them.

Yesterday I was finally able to thin the upper beets and carrots ( they were not happy with me ) and weed the Blueberry patch and recover with landscaping fabric. (I lift the fabric in the spring to allow rain easier access and to fertilize. ) I mowed the driveway and lower pasture, which gave me enough lawn clippings to top up the sides borders for weed control.

I had a little too much sun yesterday and didn't feel great this morning, so I planned a lighter day. All of the tomato suckers were pruned in the greenhouse, and I hand watered the strawberries, large winter squash, greenhouse, garlic, beans , and celery. Then I deer proofed the Giant Pacific Delphinium, mowed the back lawn and driveway...and then tapped out to come inside. We aren't used to the heat with having such a cool season so far.

My Peonies started to open today which is a welcome sight. :)

Mel— Well, this is the sort of news I have been waiting to hear from Canada. What a great posting! Too bad about your Delf. Very irritating indeed.

Harvested two baby butternut squash that finally have their stems turning tan and did a lot of weedeating. I still have about half left to do but I heard thunder so, as to not get struck by lightning, I quit.

I am going to have to buy a new weedeater because mine refuses to advance the string. It's very time consuming removing the cover and advancing the string by hand. :(

We've been out for the whole day but managed a couple of hours out in the garden this evening. Hubs and I thinned out the Apples, Pears and Plums .....certainly seems like bumper fruiting season this year.

Watered the pots and any newly planted plants that looked in need out in the borders . Also did a big deadheading session too.. Very pleased with what we achieved...lower temps make all the difference.

It has been very HOT and suffocating and STEAMY here. We had about 10" of rain between Saturday and Monday, I think it was. However, it has been sunny and not quite so hot here since. I don't like so much heat. I once read a science article where 80F is hot enough to kill people with a heat stroke. My tolerance for heat is zip.

DS got us a new push mower so we can attack this mess. A hay baler would be helpful. I have been working on mowing, and have maybe 1/3 of my yard finished for now. I have my yard divided into 9 sections for mowing purposes. I have 3 done so far. (one is not quite because the weeds in one spot are taller than my son who is 6 ft tall, & he can mess with that later.) Our other push won't run no matter what we do. It has a new carb, new spark plug, new air filter, oil fine, etc. That is how I injured my shoulder in May. He also got the smaller size line for the weed eater, and put some on it. I used that too, but have to be careful of my shoulder. It is one you have to feed the line into it... I like the ones where you just pop in a spool of line, done in a few seconds.

    The ginger loves the heat.

The elderberries are full of baby berries.

My cukes and watermelons are up.

I picked more beans today and some blackberries...

I harvested my garlic this week, it is mostly elephant garlic and they are HUGE.

I have loads of flowers: rose of Sharons, black eyed Susans, lilies, marigolds, dill, a few zinnias, phlox, hostas, mimosas, echinaceas, and others.

I have a lot more rose hips on the same bush that I harvested rose hips from a few weeks ago. I will get at them when I can.

    good night...
