There's a hierarchy with ball boys/girls at Wimbledon this year. The ones that handle the tennis balls have smart blue and white Ralph Lauren Polo uniforms. The ones that hold umbrellas, supply drinks and "ice scarves" have smart green and white, Ralph Lauren Polo uniforms. If you watch the tennis, you may see several of these, "suspicious looking characters," dressed in Wimbledon uniforms, sitting behind the players chairs. They aren't security, those are dressed differently. I can only guess they are "emergency line judges," in case the Hawkeye system goes tits up. Wimbledon think of everything.
I saw an interesting video about tennis and how people were bored with serve and volley so they altered the surfaces. At Wimbleton they changed to 100% perrenial rye I think, which slowed the ball down and encouraged a baseline game, which is exactly what I enjoy.
Play was suspended on outside courts due to rain this morning. This did not affect play on the covered courts this afternoon, which can continue if it is still raining. This will mean that someone, who was in attendance at the time, if he's there today, will not be asked to sing by the Wimbledon management, to entertain the spectators, as was the case in a year before any courts had a roof. Which might make them feel a bit disappointed, (he, not the spectators). There were long delays this morning due to the rain. Fortunately, Wimbledon were using the latest technology to clear the water as quickly as possible.
