I'm so sorry to hear this Netty. That is a tough loss on any day never mind a doomed one.

Today is a rainy windy day. When there is a break I hope to pop out and do some more fertilizing.

I made a Taco Salad to munch on for lunches over the next days. We are having the last of the last asparagus with dinner, and some beet greens. I still have asparagus coming up fresh and in new spots that haven't been picked, but I'm going to let it go to seed so that it has time to settle down before frost. It was very late to the party this year. Like me :)

Good Wednesday morning all. Currently 18°C and clear.
Yesterday was a better day. Until later in the day when I came inside after cutting my grass to discover that the bathroom toilet was leaking out water and flooding the floor. Ugh, always something around here. I put on my plumbers hat and shut off the water, mopped up the floor, and poured a jug of CLR into the tank. I let it sit a while, then wiped the inside of the tank to get rid of the hard water deposits and flushed again. It all seems to be working fine now, but I had to give the kids a lesson on listening for that water pump running excessively.
Off to work, and its going to be another busy day. We have a busy weekend coming up and the place needs to look great.
Have a great day all :)

I drove to longview for my every-six-month scan. I've been doing it for 14 years now and asked the oncologist if we could space them out more. It's 14 months since stopping 13 years of chemo, and they have all been clean so far. We'll see.

I'm not that worried about it. The oncologist said if it occurs again, we just resume chemo again.

Anyway, I take the longer drive up to Longview for it because Portland traffic is too stressful. Longview is kind of sad looking, a town that still depends on the timber industry. But down to earth and not hectic. It makes for a long day, regardless.

At home, we are continuing our döstädning (Swedish death cleaning, make choices and actions to really declutter and simplify life). Most of my clothes now easily fit in one closet and one dresser with drawers to spare. Yesterday I took contents from a big file cabinet outside and sorted, shred (any with identifying numbers, accounts etc) vs recycle vs trash. What's left is a box of letters from my parents over the years. I kept those to read. I relived some past stresses in the process but it needed doing. I feel much "lighter" now.

I thought about using shredded papers for chicken nesting, but I think it will be too messy.

I started posting historic family photos on my Bluesky account. One each day. Most are 75 to 125 years old. Maybe someone will enjoy them.

We also stopped by the paint store for the "family / dining room" (sewing room) with the brick fireplace. I think we are settled on the color now.

I had my friend to post this sewing machine on Facebook Marketplace. I don't have an account. I wont mind much if it doesn't sell. I tuned it up, it sews like a dream. It also weighs 28 pounds and I have 3 other sewing machines. Beautiful engineering.

I have a Toyota sewing machine and it's a heavy- duty model that sews jeans and upholstery as well as normal fabrics. I love it.

I think I still have a sewing machine somewhere…. I got it at a second hand store. It was back in the 70’s it was a 1960’s Singer. It’s vintage now…
It was a great machine especially with 5 boys. Sewing on patches boy scouts, sports uniforms and making Holloween costumes and patch quilts for x-mas gifts, just to name a few..it was a great machine.

Good Saturday morning all. Currently 17°C and clear. Yesterday rain showers were a bust and not a drop fell. I hate when the weathermen are so completely wrong!
A hectic day yesterday at work, and another one today. It sure will be nice when I get my helper back.
Creeping towards the weekend, can not wait.
Have a great day all :)

Columbia— oh mate, I am so delighted that you liked the little ditty. I hope it made you cheerful, if only for a moment. You are appreciated here. I hope you have a good day. Have a bad day another time. :) I like it when the kids sing.

Good Friday morning all! TGIF Currently 18°C and clear.
I was filling up my tanker last night so I could water the garden, when I noticed a giant pile of gravel behind my plants. When I had a better look I realized that some animal, probably a ground hog, has made a new home under my garage and dug the gravel out on its way down! UGH!! I've set a trap, and I'll soon see what I've caught if anything. My friend that helped me with the rabbits last winter has some ideas and is going to help me.
Off to work for one last day this week, lots to do and I hope the day passes quickly so I can get on with my weekend.
Have a great day all :)

Netty I sympathize with you and the groundhog digging under the foundation. It’s a pain in the caboose . We have had a horrible ground squirrel invasion for the last few years. I don’t know if you can trap a groundhog or call a company who specializes in that sort of thing. I have been setting traps which can catch several ground squirrels at a time . First time in years the pastures aren’t covered in huge mounds every foot in every direction. I finally found success. :smt041 Now the moles are creeping in maybe it’s time to adopt some cats… they are great hunters. I also use mole traps. I found mowing different sections of the pastures daily and making a property check 2x’s a day for any new invasions around the garden and foundations of the house , barn and out buildings is a good technique for catching new issues with these animals and snag them fast before they settle in.
Sometimes early morning I find myself playing hiding go seek with the dog gone deer. It’s always something.

Let’s us know how you handle the groundhog issue. Good luck. :sete_014:
