My son and I visited the local farmers market today. Some crafty lady was selling some awesome cheese in olive oil. Two big balls of it in a quart jar, similar to mozzarella balks. But It was $18. I didn't get any, but boy was it different. Made from yogurt. Oh the food! These pics are taken in white salmon Washington, so we are facing Oregon. That's the Columbia River. #columbiarivergorge Saw some wild turkey too
I'm so happy we're having rain @Sjoerd Someone told me to put my hat on. I laughed. I have webbed feet like a duck ( common statement among oregonians). We have to love rain here. And it seems to be making a comeback this year which is wonderful after some really dry years
You need a big cheesecloth to make yogurt cheese. And some yogurt. But thats pretty much it other than patience and what you want to put in it. Cool pics btw.
Those baby turkeys are fun to see @Zigs . Love the little families. Yesterday I passed a new family of skunks. Adorable as well but i didn't stop for a photo I'm going to make it. Thanks for helping me realize I can @Dirtmechanic I just talked to a friend that makes it too
We went to forage elderberry blossoms today on Larch Mt. Such a beautiful day. We were successful. I think I am satisfied with my supply now. It makes such delicious tea and has the same medicinal properties as elderberry syrup. On out adventures I came across this beautiful #filipendula . They are native here but I've never seen one on our little mountain. It had finished flowering so I grabbed a little sprig of seeds. I don't know if it is the pink or the white one. I do have a pink one in my garden. They're stunning and I'm excited to have found one in the wild.
Columbia— that is a good pic of your surroundings. It is good that you found that plant out there. How will you use the berries?
Hi @Sjoerd Elderberrys aren't ready yet. They are just in flower. The flowers however are filled with nutrients that some say rival the berries. The blossoms make a delicious tea and are used in many recipes. We'll drink tea to keep the bad bugs away in winter I'll start the filipendula seeds after stratification
